On the 4th anniversary of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, a new NAMI/Ipsos poll finds a large majority of U.S. adults are aware of 988, would be likely to contact it during a mental health crisis, and trust they’d receive the help they need if they reached out.

As people are reaching out to 988 more than ever before, our work to fulfill the vision of 988 continues. Mississippi is #1 in the nation for 988 in-state call answer rate — and we're not slowing down. Our crisis centers answered 99% of in-state calls, with an average speed of just 1.3 seconds.

Our crisis centers answered 99% of in-state calls, outpacing every other state in the country. The average speed to answer? Just 1.3 seconds.

This didn't happen by accident. It's the result of dedicated staff across our crisis centers who show up every day to make sure no call goes unanswered. We are incredibly proud of the work being done for Mississippians in their most critical moments.

The 988 Su***de and Crisis Lifeline is the evolution of the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline, established in 2005 as a network of accredited helplines across the nation with a single telephone number. The call centers behind the network are even older, reaching back to 1971. This presentation looks at how it works and its future.
