September 11, 2001, is a day forever etched into the heart of our nation.
Twenty-five years later, we still remember the lives that were taken too soon, the families whose worlds changed forever, and the first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
We remember the firefighters and police officers who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape. We remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who fought back. We remember the innocent men, women, and children who simply began that morning expecting to return home to their families.
But September 11 also changed the course of our country. It shaped an entire generation and called thousands of Americans to serve—at home and overseas. For many, the wars and sacrifices that followed became deeply personal. Some gave their lives. Others returned home carrying wounds, both seen and unseen. Their sacrifices are also part of the legacy of that day.
As the years pass, it becomes even more important that we continue telling the story of September 11 to generations who were not yet alive to witness it.
We remember where we were.
We remember those we lost.
We remember those who answered the call.
We remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity that followed.
May we never take our freedom for granted, and may we never forget the price so many have paid in its defense.
