Ithaca Adult Hockey Association

Ithaca Adult Hockey Association The Ithaca Adult Hockey Association was formed during the summer of 1999. IAHA offers two divisions, A/B and B/C.

The primary goal of IAHA is to promote a healthy and fun recreational adult hockey league in Ithaca. The Ithaca Adult Hockey Association was formed during the summer of 1999 by a group of players from both the Cass Park and the Rink leagues. The primary goal of IAHA is to promote a healthy and fun recreational adult hockey league in Ithaca by providing oversight of the league administration, impro

ving parity among teams, promoting sportsmanship, and encouraging players at all skill levels to participate. The A/B division is intended for intermediate to advanced players. The B/C division is for entry level to intermediate players. The number of teams in each division is dependent on annual registrations. Teams will consist of a maximum of 13 skaters plus one goalie. No player will be assigned to a team until the individual has submitted an online registration, including USA Hockey registration, and made payment to the association. If players want to be assigned to the same team (maximum of two for A/B and three for B/C), they must all make a “We want to play together” request during their registration session. All players who want to be paired together must make complementary
requests naming the others in the group. All players will be assigned to teams in a randomized fashion by the IAHA Board.

On Sunday, December 14th, two teams in the Ithaca Adult Hockey Association decided to take things outside!!!

Our first-ever game in our first-ever Winter Classic Series was played between Kirbylab Microfluidics and Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing, and it was a game to remember!

The weather mostly cooperated, and the scene was nothing short of majestic, very reminiscent of the first NHL Winter Classic in not too distant Buffalo, NY! And while the snow did make playing somewhat difficult for the teams, they pushed through and played the game like so many kids do growing up across Canada and the U.S.

Kirbylab jumped out to an early lead in the first period, capitalizing on a turnover in the defensive zone and securing a breakaway for a quick goal.

However, things turned in the second period when Five & 20 scored three times to put the game 3-2.

Kirbylab put up a great defensive effort, and certainly gave it everything they had with a big push near the end, but with a goal a piece, the game ended 4-3 in favor of Five & 20.

And while years from now we won't remember the score, we will certainly remember the memories and camaraderie that both teams shared before, during, and after the game. And when they tell stories about games in our league, all of these fine athletes will get to say they were the first to do this!

A big thank you to our biggest (and most important) partner in making this happen, thefarmrink. Without you, this couldn't have happened. We are very thankful for your hospitality and willingness to work with us! And thank you for allowing our family and friends to share the ice with us after the game for a little while.

Game #2 of the Winter Classic Series will be played on Sunday, January 11th at 6:00 between Instant Replay Sports and The Gym!

A very well deserved tribute to our fearless leader Eric Cyker.

For more than 25 years, Eric Cyker has been the driving force behind adult ice hockey in Ithaca. As the founding president of the Ithaca Adult Hockey Association since 1999, he’s built a league that welcomes players of all skill levels - from lifelong competitors to those lacing up skates for the very first time.

Under Eric’s leadership, the league has grown to as many as eight teams, drawing hundreds of athletes who return year after year. Registration is so popular it often fills up within the first hour. Beyond league play, Eric organizes summer pick-up games to introduce new players, creating a welcoming space that makes the transition into organized hockey easy and enjoyable.

His commitment has always been about more than just the sport - it’s about fostering community, inclusion, and a love of the game. While much of his work happens behind the scenes, Eric’s dedication has made hockey in Ithaca thrive and will keep the association strong for years to come.

Wednesday, August 27: ESPN Ithaca's Community Gamechangers recognizes individuals throughout the Finger Lakes who have made an impact in our sports community.
