Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew

Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew uses volunteer power to keep the coast clean. Check-in for sweeps is at the beach walkover in the 1100 block of Ocean Boulevard.

Isle of Palms Cleanup Crew uses volunteer power to keep the coast clean, protect natural ecosystems & public health, and document litter to help solve the pollution crisis. Check upcoming events through the year on Monday nights, and our Breakfast Club on Wednesday mornings during the summer. Find our nook between the city building with the IOP postcard mural and the outdoor showers. Smugglers & C

oconut Joe's are also close by. We are NOT at the Isle of Palms County Park – that’s 3 blocks away. IOP Cleanup Crew partners with South Carolina Aquarium. We will tell you how to record litter data for the aquarium’s Litter Journal. This can be done with the data sheets we provide or the related online app. We also provide reusable buckets, bags, gloves, clipboards, pencils & litter grabbers for volunteers who have mobility challenges. Volunteers are asked to collect litter for at least 30 minutes and afterward can enjoy discounts at participating Isle of Palms restaurants. You can obtain a vehicle magnet that allows free parking in the City of IOP lots off Pavilion Drive during subsequent litter sweeps. Anyone who has helped with two litter sweeps is eligible for an IOP Cleanup Crew T-shirt made with sustainable resources, including recycled plastic. No advance registration required, but if you have a large group of 15 or more coming, we’d love a heads up. Please email IOP Cleanup Crew Cofounder [email protected] with info about your group and a head count estimate. We happily sign for student volunteer hours!

Here comes the ☀️ and a rainbow 🌈 treat for the optimistic volunteers who turned out in hopes the rain would go away ❤️ Once clear, they got out there & cleaned up!

UPDATE - it’s raining steadily right now on the island. We will have supplies for our litter sweep in case it clears up by 6:20 pm but it’s not looking so good right now.

Remember to stay away from the beach and especially the water when thunder and lightning are present.

We wrapped up our series of six spring litter sweeps with these last two events in May. Now we are cleaning every Monday night through Labor Day.

Join us from 6-7 p.m. at Front Beach - we only ask for half an hour of your time, but you are welcome to stay for the whole thing. Adding details in the comments.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered!

We were so busy during Lowcountry Earth Month in April, we didn't have a chance to properly thank all the groups that we teamed up with on special events in recent weeks. So it's time to catch up!

During Earth Week ….

🌎 we supported a special beach sweep with area Publix employees

🌎 we stepped outside our usual zone to assist Blue Sky Endurance and The Foot Store as they organized walkers and runners to collect litter along the Isle of Palms Connector on the Mount Pleasant side.

🌎 we represented at Lucy Beckham High School's lunchtime Eco Fair.

The momentum continued into May with …

🌎 a Sunday morning litter sweep with Troop 357 out of Summerville.

🌎 an evening litter sweep later that Sunday organized by a University of South Carolina student from Isle of Palms who recruited friends and family to pitch in as part of a school project.

🌎 a table at the Isle of Palms Hurricane & Resilience Expo, which has expanded its focus to include more environmental groups.

This summer, we will have regular weekly litter sweeps at Front Beach from 6-7 pm each Monday, and in July, we will add Thursday evening litter sweeps at the same time.

If you have a group of 15 or more and would like to do a special litter sweep at a different time than our usual schedule, please contact IOP Cleanup Crew leader Susan Hill Smith at [email protected] & we will try to work things out.
