In addition to providing youth leadership opportunities through sponsoring "junior" Kiwanis clubs known as Key Clubs at Ishpeming, Westwood and Negaunee High Schools, we also sponsor the Builders Club -- a middle school version of Key Club in the Ishpeming School District. In addition to providing funding for a variety of youth-related activities -- from Girl and Boy Scouts, Little League baseball
, Bay Cliff Health Camp, Special Olympics, Community Baby Shower and the Marquette-Alger Reading Council, to name just a few -- our club also involves itself in service projects. We participate in MDOT's Adopt-a-Highway program, as well as volunteering at the U.P. Special Olympics Winter Games, the Ishpeming Ski Club's annual jumping events, Salvation Army food basket deliveries and many more activities where assistance is needed. Our major fund-raisers are our golf scramble, with the 15th annual set for June 14, 2011, at Wawonowin Country Club. We also host a breakfast to honor the inductees to the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, with this tradition having been carried on for more than 30 years and usually feeding nearly 200 people at each gathering. The club's regular meetings are at noon Wednesdays at Ishpeming's Jasper Ridge Brewery. We're always looking for new members, so come join us and see what Kiwanis is all about!
