Fifty years have passed since the final American military forces left Vietnam and our prisoners of war were returned.

The interpretations and the lessons of the war are mixed and ongoing. Politicians, historians, and, most importantly, the American people will continue to seek to understand and apply the lessons of the time.

But one lesson we know and apply: our veterans earned our respect. Too many were disrespected and cast aside in the grueling war.

Today is a reminder of our duties to reflect on and honor lives of purpose and sacrifice.

On National Vietnam Veteran’s Day, we invite you to honor the veterans by watching the National Veteran’s Memorial and Museum’s Welcome Home Ceremony at 10 AM EST. Please share the viewing with friends, colleagues, and loved ones. It’s a small but important way to honor and build their legacies.
