Don’t miss this special opportunity to meet Patrick Dearen, author of numerous books about the river and region we love. Find Patrick with Friends of the Pecos River, this Saturday at Alley Oop in Iraan!

This is Horsehead Crossing in the Texas reach of the Pecos River in 1986.
On Saturday, June 6, I'll be farther down the river at Iraan, TX for the Alley Oop & Yates Field Centennial, at which I'll be signing copies of my award-winning books about the region. Catch me between 11 a.m. and early evening and we can talk about the history of the Pecos River country.
In this photo, you can also see Castle Gap, the gateway to the West for the Butterfield, Goodnight-Loving, and Comanche War trails. Eight lost treasures are said to be concealed in the Gap.
Among my nonfiction books will be "Castle Gap and the Pecos Frontier, Revisited," "A Cowboy of the Pecos," "Crossing Rio Pecos," and "Bitter Waters: The Struggles of the Pecos River."
Children's novels will include my trilogy, "On the Pecos Trail," Comanche Peace Pipe," and "The Hidden Treasure of the Chisos," as well as my latest, "Halloween on the Butterfield Trail."
My Spur Award-winning "The Big Drift," and its Spur finalist sequel "The Big Dry," will be among my novels for adult readers.
A resident of Midland, TX, I was inducted into the Texas Literary Hall of Fame in 2022.

This is a good piece for any Pecos River lovers who are interested in the complexities of discharging treated produced water into the river. "Regulators can frame controlled releases as a tool for environmental flows in a stressed watershed. But the Pecos is an interstate river governed by compact obligations with New Mexico, and upstream-downstream disputes tend to flare when water quality or quantity shifts."

Texas is considering permitting treated oilfield wastewater discharge into the Pecos River, a move with significant economic and environmental implications for the Permian Basin and its key players…
