From Garden to Gallery
Our volunteer and friend Nick Goergen will graduate this spring from the University of Iowa with a Master of Fine Arts degree, and we are proud to celebrate both his achievement and the creative journey he shared with our community.

Nick’s culminating exhibition, A Lived Naturism, reflects three years of artistic exploration into making sculpture from materials he grows, forages, and processes himself. Many of those materials were gathered from Project GREEN Gardens, where Nick volunteered and quietly integrated his artistic practice with the rhythms of the natural landscape.

Through careful research and patient craft, Nick transformed garden-grown fibers and natural materials into handmade paper and sculptural works. Each piece reflects not only his technical skill but also a thoughtful relationship with the land—showing how art can emerge directly from the environment that sustains it.

We were fortunate to enjoy Nick’s volunteer service and to learn about his process along the way. His exhibition filled the large hall of the Eve Drewelowe Gallery, where the work beautifully captured the connection between nature, creativity, and community.

Project GREEN is honored to have played a small part in Nick’s creative path, and we congratulate him on this remarkable achievement as he completes his Master of Fine Arts.
