Most of the requests are to pay for healthcare needs/bills and groceries. People need to eat to live and welfare continues to decrease as grocery prices keep rising, lining the pockets of capitalists profiting off of a survival need. Healthcare is a necessity we all experience and cuts to medicaid throw our community members into medical debt while private insurance companies continue to profit off of the death of our neighbors.

General aid is a high need in the community that we are never able to meet in full due to our organizations fiscal priorities and limited funding. Even though this is the case we receive dozens of requests each month. Aprils requests are higher and more demanding, therefore we are in need of URGENT funds.

We can and MUST do something. If you can, donate at our link in bio, share this post with close relatives, or help your neighbor.

Yesterday, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law that eliminates local civil rights protections for trans people. This is just one piece of the legislature’s anti-trans agenda — they’re working to eliminate access to trans healthcare in Iowa, too. Their ultimate goal? Eradicate trans people entirely. They will not succeed.

No level of government, not even local, will fight for us. It’s past time to stop pretending we can rely on the government to meet our needs. The task of overthrowing the people and systems hell-bent on making our survival difficult and thriving impossible falls to us, and so does the task of building a viable alternative. Let’s get to work.

Though spring is on the horizon climate change makes seasonal changes unpredictable — we could still be in for a cold snap and need to be prepared, but funds are running low. Excess donations at the end of the season will go to other camp needs.

If 500 people donate $5 we could raise $2500 to go to life saving community needs with no strings attached. Many hands make light work. Help out where you can!
