ICFRC is thrilled to welcome Sophia Restiffe-Favoretto as our 2026 Glocal Impact Fellow focused on Multimedia Strategy and Outreach.

Sophia is a Brazilian-Italian communicator, visual storyteller, and recent graduate of the University of Iowa’s Master of Arts program in Mass Communication. With experience in visual communication, multimedia storytelling, international student engagement, study abroad programming, and cross-cultural education, Sophia brings a global perspective and deep commitment to helping people connect across cultures and communities.

Through this two-month summer fellowship, Sophia will help ICFRC develop audience profiles, outreach tools, messaging materials, and multimedia content strategies to expand participation, deepen community partnerships, and support our fall Voices Into Votes: Why Turnout Matters Here, There, and Now series.

The Glocal Impact Fellowship connects internationally focused graduate students and recent alumni with meaningful opportunities to apply their skills locally, working alongside community leaders, international experts, advocates, and social impact organizations in Johnson County.

We are so excited to have Sophia’s creativity, experience, and international perspective supporting ICFRC’s mission to make global learning accessible, welcoming, and locally meaningful.

ICFRC is hiring a Multimedia Student Intern!

We’re looking for a University of Iowa SJMC student to help capture the energy, ideas, and community connections that make ICFRC programs special. This opportunity is photography-first, with a strong preference for someone interested in videography and short-form storytelling.

Programs typically take place every two weeks, with the in-between week used for editing and a team check-in. The role averages up to 5 hours per week.

Interested? Email Peter Gerlach at [email protected] with your resume, 2–3 samples, and a brief note about why you want to work with ICFRC and your availability.

The Stanley Center invites the community to the premiere of Barberman, an original full-length play about Alexander Clark, a longtime Muscatine resident, civil rights leader, and early advocate for equal rights in Iowa.

Clark’s landmark lawsuit against the Muscatine school board led the Iowa Supreme Court to desegregate Iowa’s public schools 85 years before Brown v. Board of Education. This powerful production brings his story, and the stories of those who shaped and stood alongside him, to the stage.

The play will be performed June 12 through 14, 2026, at Muscatine Community College. This is a free event with a suggested donation.

Performance times:
Friday, June 12 at 7:00 PM, followed by Q&A
Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 PM
Saturday, June 13 at 7:00 PM, followed by Q&A
Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 PM, followed by Q&A

Reserve your seat today and experience this important Iowa story brought to life.

Join us for ICFRC’s final spring season event and the last program in our Resisting Global Tyranny series, presented in partnership with The Englert Theatre, Prairie Lights Books, and Iowa Public Radio.

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, political scientist Dr. Jeffrey Winters will discuss his new book, The Blind Spot: How Oligarchs Dominate Our Democracy, in conversation with Ben Kieffer of Iowa Public Radio.

In this urgent and thought-provoking program, Winters explores how oligarchic power has shaped modern democracy and why so many people continue to participate in systems that exclude and disenfranchise them. He also offers bold ideas for how power can be rebalanced in a time of deep inequality.
