On July 31st, we hosted a nonpartisan city council candidate forum. 4 of the 7 candidates we contacted responded and agreed to be part of this community event. We recorded it for those who couldn't join (watch it here, or look for the YouTube link in comments).

Minnesota's primary is Tuesday, August 11th (early voting is available now!). Make a plan to vote, and carry out that plan.

We hope you find this useful, as you decide which 2 city council candidates to vote for in our local primary!

Last night’s Democracy Night/IGH City Council Candidate Forum was a success!

IGH residents and the League of Women Voters-Dakota County provided voter information. Residents looked up their polling locations and created voting plans. Four candidates for IGH City Council from across the political spectrum, Matt Mills, Tony Scales, Kevin Sethre, and Mary T’Kach shared their views and priorities for IGH. Residents packed the room, eager to hear directly from candidates.

It is so rare these days to have people with a wide variety of political perspectives in the same room speak honestly about their views AND to have people listen carefully and respectfully. We all even shared a few laughs together.

A huge thanks to all who contributed to the evening’s success: Amazing Grace Lutheran Church for donating their space; our A/V team (Bill, Heather, and Keely); our setup team (Katie, Bruce, Robin, Kim, Leslie, Dawn G, Dawn P, Anne), our moderator (Alex), timer (Katie),graphics volunteers (Courtney and Cassandra), voter information teams (Bruce, Jason, Kim, Dawn G, League of Women Voters-Dakota County), and Parent Care Collective. Thanks to all the candidates who bravely attended a brand new event. And to IGH Cares members for answering surveys and contributing questions.

We will send out links to the forum recording here and in our newsletter.

Our next IGH Cares meeting will be Sunday, August 9 from 10am-12pm at the Inver Glen Library’s conference room. We will recap the evening, discuss plans to provide free childcare to voters on primary day Tuesday, August 11, and plan future projects.

Let’s keep this momentum and community spirit going!
