With the weather improving, Sassy and Maggie finally got a chance to get out on the trail! Sassy was feeling energetic, though settled in quickly, and both girls had a blast and did great! They saw dogs, an ATV, a truck and plenty of people all without batting an eye. They were eager to explore and happy trail ponies!

Both of these pretty ladies are available for adoption! Visit:

for more information on these girls, to learn more about our adoption process, and to view and download our adoption application.

Breed: Grade Mare
Age: 15
Height: 14.3 hh

Beautiful Rohan is a lovely, well-built mare. She came to us essentially unhandled and with feet in terrible shape. It has been a long road for Rohan, who was highly suspicious of humans when she arrived yet needed frequent trimmings to be able to address her hoof rehabilitation. She has had exciting progress and also disappointing setbacks in the big journey of her rehabilitation with us, but we are excited to say that she is now at a place where she can be offered for adoption.

Rohan has come so far in her interest and engagement with humans, can be haltered, handled, and lead, and has a very awesome, fun, down to earth personality with a confident, independent spirit. She never gets overly attached to other horses and is always happy to wander off to do her own thing. She will make someone a fine trail horse someday!

Rohan has not yet been started under saddle. Her trainer has been working on early acceptance of pad and saddle and it has been going well. However, any adopter of Rohan needs to know that they will not be able to jump to exactly the same point of training where she is now. Her trainer has spent a lot of time building trust with Rohan, and any potential adopter will need to invest time in earning her trust as well.

Rohan is SMART. Incredibly smart. She will need someone who understands training and equine behavior in order to thrive. She is not a good horse for someone looking to learn how to train on their first project horse. However, that sharp brain of hers also really stretches you and teaches you, and her person is going to have the most amazing partnership once that trust and understanding is found!

If you have any questions about Rohan, feel free to reach out.

🏅 Courteous Companion Certificate | 🏅 Barn Basics Certificate | 🏅Groundwork Guru Certificate | 🏅Riding Readiness

Available for Adoption for $1,000
Breed: Grade Gaited Mare
Age: 16
Height: 14.1 hh

Sassy came to us from Mississippi, she had been struggling with bad allergies and her owner sent her up to Michigan as a hail mary to try to find a way to control them, sending her north to change the environment. It took some time, but we have now dialed in on her treatment and medications, and Sassy is ready for her new home. She has completed a treatment of allergen therapy and has a functional medication protocol on the days when allergens flare. She will need an environment that offers 24/7 turnout and no round bales to maintain her management.

While Sassy would not be well-suited for something like endurance or distance-riding with her allergies, she is ready to be a lovely trail horse, with a fun little gait! She is confident and forward moving on the trail, steps out and is happy to lead. She doesn’t mind following as long as the other horses are also quick walkers!

Sassy knows her business under saddle, but like many gaited horses, she is quite energetic and forward, and could be intimidating for a beginner or inexperienced rider. We would recommend her for an intermediate or above.

Sassy is a very sweet, friendly, loving mare with people, enjoys attention and is easy to handle for her general daily care. She is a strong minded mare in a herd, and will sometimes push other horses around if they allow it.

What is she working on:

Sassy has nothing specific that we are trying to improve, other than continuing to spend time under saddle. She was an experienced trail horse before coming to us, and has just had some time off as we figured out her management, so she is settling back into riding and will just get smoother and more laid back as time passes with more practice.

Maggie is a beautiful, stocky palomino pony. She came to Horse North simply due to a lack of time on the owner's part to be able to work with her, and her owner wanted to be sure that she found a good home. She is a sweet mare on the ground, and will get more and more cuddly as you spend quality time with her. She can handle basic horse skills well, though she can get pushy in situations where she becomes nervous. This is true both on the ground and under saddle. We suggest her for an intermediate or advanced rider at this time. She did well for us, no buck or rear or major concerns, but she still seems a little green or inexperienced under saddle and with that pushy tendency when nervous, a confident rider who can stay calm and lead through those situations would be best for her.

Maggie is a strong girl in a herd, and tends to be higher up in the pecking order. She is also a typical pony - stays fat on air! She has slimmed down since she first arrived, but she is still overweight and that will be something that will be a consideration her whole life. She would do best either in a drylot situation or at least somewhere where she would be pulled from grass overnight. A lush, 24/7 pasture would make a difficult management situation for her.

Overall, Maggie is a gorgeous little palomino, though built tough, and for someone who can put in a little time on her training and bonding on the front end, she will very quickly blossom into a phenomenal family member!

🐴Horse Rescue Day🐴

Today we celebrate second chances—the quiet, powerful kind that come with time, patience, and trust.

Every rescued horse carries a story. Some come from hardship, some from neglect, and some simply from being forgotten. But what they all share is the incredible ability to heal, to forgive, and to connect again.

At our rescue, we see it every day—horses learning to trust a gentle hand, finding comfort in a herd, and rediscovering their purpose. And we see people changed by them, too.

Horse rescue isn’t just about saving animals. It’s about restoring dignity, building relationships, and creating futures that once felt impossible.

Today, we honor the horses who inspire us, the people who stand beside them, and the journey that brings them together. 💙

If you’ve ever supported, volunteered, adopted, or simply shared our mission—thank you. You are part of every story we rewrite.
