Our kids have found all the best ways to beat the desert heat. As the school year wrapped up, our mentors joined in on end-of-year water days at both Valley View Elementary School- Home of the Eagles! and Roosevelt Elementary, a perfect sendoff into summer. Belinda did not just supervise either, she jumped right into the water alongside the kids.

Then Mr. Q and Marbella took several of their youth to a Water Day hosted by Desert Recreation District and Handel's Ice Cream, where the community came out for water balloons, water squirters, water soccer, and every other way to stay cool under the sun. The kids had a blast, and Marbella and her crew even took home the Raising Cane's prize in the closing raffle. A great way to kick off summer in the Valley!

Desert Fast Pitch was a highlight for our team last year, not just for our own experience but for the chance to stand alongside so many other nonprofits doing meaningful work across the Valley. NBC Palm Springs recently featured Karrie in a piece about this year's event, and it does a wonderful job capturing the work we do and the spirit that makes this competition so special. Caps off to our kindergarten graduates! Watching our youngest youth cross this first milestone fills us with so much pride. There is nothing quite like seeing these kids celebrated by the people who love them most, from proud parents and caregivers to the mentors by their side. Kindergarten is just the beginning, and we feel lucky to walk alongside these families for every step still to come.

Belinda has a knack for turning an ordinary day into something special. When she heard the new Chick-fil-A was giving away prizes to anyone sporting cow spots on opening day, she brought Amanda and her siblings along for the fun. The kids dressed the part and owner Dan and his team made sure they felt like VIPs, sending them off with stuffed animals and balloon animals. Thank you to Chick-fil-A for showing our families such a warm welcome.

The fathers and father figures in our kids' lives are an essential part of our work, and we are committed to showing up for them the same way they show up for their kids. Earlier this month we hosted Kickin' It with Dad, bringing program dads and father figures together with their kids and mentors for an afternoon at the park. Kickball, kites, lawn games, and a picnic lunch made for a great day, but the real work was in the connections being built. We are always looking to deepen these relationships, because engaged families are at the heart of everything we do.
