Today we helped move 9 pallets of used shoes from the Wheeler Mission Warehouse on the southside, to the Changing Footprints sorting location near St Vincent's. This is an excellent example of service organizations working together. People from 5 different volunteer organizations were helping. Shoes will be sorted and organized, then redistributed. Every month, our club's volunteers help organize volunteers, pick up donations, sort shoes, and deliver shoes to cooperating organizations.

Today the Kiwanis club of Castleton welcomed Sven Schumacher, Chief executive officer of Lutheran child and family services. This is the parent organization of the sharing place food Bank where many of members volunteer. He is a compelling speaker and I am attaching his contact information if any of the local clubs would like to hear from him.

Today we report the passing of one of the iconic club members of our Castleton chapter.
Hector Perez Hector was a long time member of this Club, President in 2010-2011. By his leadership we started serious fund raising which we are still doing today. By his efforts we started giving out scholarships and donations that look after kids such as the Riley Hospital for Children. Hector was 90 years old.

Joseph "Joe" Glen Bowling
August 16, 1945 — January 26, 2026

Joseph Glen Bowling, "Joe" or "JB" passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on January 26, 2026. He was able to pass surrounded by family at home after battling pancreatic cancer. Born August 16th ,1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Bill and Jean Bowling. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Jo Boggs (Joe), his loving grandchildren, Jackson and Josie and his sister Nancy Rickly (Jon).

He graduated from Warren Central High School and Indiana University. A devoted father and accomplished realtor, Joe dedicated his life to serving others, leaving a legacy that stretches far beyond mere transactions. Joe would have given the shirt off his back to anyone who asked. He had an unwavering commitment to his clients. He served as a realtor for over 50 years.

Joe loved being active, he had a passion for golf, tennis, and working out. He spoke fondly of friends from the YMCA, Fort Ben golf course, the Indianapolis Racquet Club and the Kiwanis Club. He never went anywhere without telling jokes to make people smile. After his many activities during the day, he couldn't wait to spend time with his grandchildren whether at a practice or merely him coaching them. He looked forward to spending vacations with his grandchildren at the beach.

He leaves behind a cherished daughter, Jamie Jo Boggs, whose life he enriched with love and guidance. Joe's presence will resonate through her memories, echoing the lessons he imparted and the laughter they shared. He was a pillar for Jamie Jo, providing strength and support as she navigated the paths of her own life.

A celebration of life will be held at Cornerstone Lutheran Church on Friday February 27 10am viewing with service to follow at 11am.
