Community Food Box Project

Community Food Box Project Providing community members in or near food deserts (as identified by the USDA) with free donated food and education about food deserts and local resources

Purpose: The Purpose of the Community Food Box Project is to temporarily provide immediate relief to a larger issue within urban communities: food deserts. Community food boxes will provide those in need with free food until the city and other stakeholders invest in the urgent needs of people living with food insecurity. About: The Community Food Box Project is a small project started by Sierra Nu

It is with a sad heart that I announce that the fundraiser this weekend is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

We will still have the venue reserved (since it was free), and will be celebrating with pizza, dancing and karaoke. Please still come celebrate and let’s enjoy ourselves despite hard times.

If you bought a ticket, look for an email from me asking if you’d like a refund. If you’d still like to donate, there’s a Zeffy link in the bio.

This lady right here!! A hidden gem. Alesha Taylor, otherwise known as ART, serves on our Board of Directors, and has been working hard (and consistently!!) in the Indy food justice space for many years. Her leadership and mentorship has guided me through so many spaces, places, and situations. She knows the Indianapolis Food Policy landscape like the back of her hand.

She serves as Chair of Indianapolis Food Advisory Commission— a group of stakeholders/leaders who make policy recommendations for our city. She is also a founding member of the Community Food Access Coalition. The coalition will be tabling at our fundraiser this year, so you all will have a chance to talk with ART and understand a bit more about why Community Food Box Project partners with policy advocates!

We love you ART and the many leaders making things happen with little recognition. There are so many grassroots leaders doing the work inside their own communities! Please take some time this week to find out who those people are in your circles and THANK THEM!! 🩵

For the poll: Would you attend a local food justice/policy workshop led by grassroots leaders like ART?
