Hunger is a regional issue. The 2025 Survey of Food Assistance Need in Central Indiana shows that too many Hoosiers across our nine-county region lack consistent access to healthy food. More than half of respondents reported some level of food insecurity, and 37% experienced “very low” food security, the most severe USDA hunger category.
The data also demonstrates that hunger is not confined to one neighborhood, one county or one type of community. It affects urban, suburban and rural communities. It affects people in households with wage-earners. It affects the neighbors, classmates, coworkers and families we encounter every day.
That means our response must be regional, too.
