Join us Wednesday, June 17th, 6:00-7:00 pm ET, for an online ecumenical worship service in observance of World Refugee Day.

With the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program frozen since January 2025 and resettled refugees facing an onslaught of diminishing protections and expanding threats, it is more important than ever to gather in lament, solidarity, and celebration of the right to seek refuge.

With contributions from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Church of the Brethren, Presbyterian Church (USA), Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the United Church of Christ, we will worship through prayer, art, music, and reflections from pastors with their own stories of migration. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matthew 25:35)

Earlier this month, a team of volunteers from across the Great River Region of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ worked with our partners at Rolling Fork Rising to build homes for residents displaced by the 2023 tornado that devastated the area. Recovery happens through relationships! (To learn more about how you can serve, visit weekofcompassion.org/volunteer)

Please join us in praying for the people of the Philippines following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao and the tsunami warnings that followed.

Our partners are already assessing impacts, coordinating with affected communities, and preparing their humanitarian response. As churches and ecumenical partners, they are accompanying those who are grieving, displaced, and facing uncertainty in the aftermath of this disaster.

Later this week, Week of Compassion Executive Director Rev. Vy Nguyen will travel to the Philippines as part of the Global Theological Fellows immersion program— a collaboration between Higher Education Leadership Ministries, Global Ministries, and Week of Compassion.

While Manila and the areas of our visit remain safe, this unfolding crisis is a reminder of why these relationships matter. Through partnerships built over many decades, we are able to learn from, pray with, and accompany churches that faithfully serve their communities in times of both celebration and crisis.

We invite you to pray:
• For those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
• For communities affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
• For our partners, local churches, and first responders as they assess needs and coordinate relief efforts.
• For wisdom, strength, and hope in the days ahead.

Week of Compassion remains in close communication with our partners and stands ready to accompany their response as needs emerge.

Today is World Hunger Day.

Did you know that Week of Compassion supports programs around the world that care for people experiencing hunger and food insecurity?

For instance, after devastating flooding in Pakistan, Week of Compassion supported local farmers in planting the crops they needed to recover and rebuild.

This photo shows one of many fields filled with peppers grown from seeds provided by Week of Compassion.

Hunger relief is about more than emergency aid. It’s about partnering with communities to build sustainable futures filled with dignity, resilience, and hope. Thank you for being a part of that work!

Around the world, millions of people are facing food insecurity caused by conflict, climate disasters, displacement, economic instability, and deep inequality. Yet hunger is not simply about a lack of food. It is about access, justice, dignity, and the systems that shape who is able to flourish and who is left vulnerable.

At Week of Compassion, we are grateful to partner with local churches, community organizations, and humanitarian partners around the world who are responding every day with courage, creativity, and compassion. From climate-resilient agriculture programs in Southeast Asia, to refugee support in the Middle East and Africa, to community-led recovery efforts after disasters, these partners are helping families not only survive, but build sustainable futures.

We believe communities closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions. That is why we are committed to accompaniment, locally led response, and long-term resilience.

On World Hunger Day, we invite you to pray, learn, advocate, and give as we continue working toward a world where every person has enough — enough food, enough safety, enough opportunity, and enough hope.
