Boone County Bluebird Society

Boone County Bluebird Society We are in Boone County Indiana, a local bluebird club and discussion page for all nature lovers. Why all the fuss? We also have the Indiana Bluebird Society.

Eastern Bluebirds suffer a severe lack of nesting sites, as nesting habitat including open lands, untreated wooden fence posts, and standing dead trees have become a thing of the past. House Wrens, House Sparrows and European Starlings pose and additional problem. They are more aggressive than the bluebirds and often take over their nesting sites. We can easily help the bluebirds by providing nest

ing boxes and keeping them safe from other birds. This is being done in Boone County and the project has been successful! There are many bluebird societies across the country, the main one being the North American Bluebird Society.

The Bluebird Wing Wave!

Spring is here and this male bluebird is showing off his handsomeness with that flirtatious wing-wave!
What a capture this was!

This fabulous photo was shared with permission by Wildlife photographer Charles (Chuck) Gammon of Davison, Michigan.

Thank you Chuck, this is so beautiful.

We will have a Spring meeting, May 8th at 6:45 pm at the Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St., Zionsville, in St. Vincent room #207. We'll have fun bluebird discussion, and a presentation by Chris Pearce. In 2020, Chris didn’t have any large windows in her home to enjoy her love of birdwatching. So she decided to figure out if modern technology could help and it has! Chris will be presenting information, photos and videos she has gathered utilizing technology with backyard “birdwatching”. This includes some how-to’s in the use of cordless outdoor cameras within/outside bird houses, bird feeders, and on bird baths. These are a couple of images from her cameras.
