We are a 501(c)(3) organization run by volunteer licensed wildlife rehabilitators.

We provide our services free of charge to our wild reptile friends in the hope of releasing rehabilitated reptiles back into the wild.

This week we got the privilege of helping rescue some mystery eggs from a compost pile. The caller reached out to CWR after discovering the eggs and was concerned they could have come from a venomous snake species and didn’t want them in their yard. We applaud the caller for still wanting to save their lives however and are grateful for people who care enough to reach out for help!

Since we had our incubators still running strong around here, we offered to add them into the bunch and see what emerged. Just one day later they started to pip and the most precious baby rat snakes are being welcomed as we speak.

A group of our reptile loving friends agreed that the eggs resembled potatoes- so this little one has been lovingly dubbed “Fried Tater” however we noticed something different about him and that he clearly is a Nightmare Before Christmas fan donning none other than Oogie Boogie on his head! What do you think his name should be?

Gosh where did August go? I’m still here, still covered in various things turtle related (good and bad lol) we are starting crunch time for turtle releases and kicking those into high gear to prepare for the “slow season” around here. I’m anxious to share all of the fun we had this summer with you all, and hate that I’ve been on this social media blackout to save my sanity for the past couple months. There’s so much excitement to come! Thank you all for sticking with me and being here. Picture of two tiny slider babies that just hatched-tiny and a bit premature from their eggs being dug up by a golden retriever- but they beat the odds and are thriving so far, albeit their tiny size!

You guys!!! I can not even believe the amazing donations that were collected for us by Cabarrus County Library as part of their summer reading program! These ladies are phenomenal and thankfully I think I now have enough paper towels to wipe all these happy tears 🥹 from just overwhelming gratitude! Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart!

This little lady is feeling much better and is showing off that she cleaned off her food plate at breakfast.

She was admitted with an aural abscess that required surgical removal. She receives pain management, and fluid therapy as she isn’t able to submerge in a water dish while healing.

After removal of the infection material the incision is left open and flushed and allowed to drain and it closes up over the next week, she is monitored for any recurring infection prior to release.

We can only imagine how much better she feels and are so grateful to her finder for noticing that she needed help and getting her to us!

Sorry we have been so quiet, the turtle calls haven’t stopped and we are spending most of our time getting the animals taken care of around here and social media has taken a back seat to making sure the animals have everything they need. We have received several wishlist boxes and I want to tell everyone thank you, but Amazon has stopped including the little tags to tell me who sent them!

So thank you mystery Amazon Santa’s for the box turtle food, chlorhexadine, collagen powder, beeswax, all the beautiful boxes that keep us going!

I’m taking pics and promise to update you all soon when things slow down a bit!! In the meantime here’s a silly toad patient picture of her grabbing a snack just because… how crazy is that 👅 tongue!!

**Graphic photo warning** but cute baby snake pictures first- if you don’t want to see graphic turtle injuries don’t scroll!

We’ve got a couple turtles that will need to go into the vet this week once stabilized for surgery, and funds are running low. One eastern box turtle with a proptose eye that will need an enucleation and another for aural ear abscess removal. We expect the bill to run upwards of $500 if you can donate anything helps!

We are thrilled to report that “Alexandra” the Eastern Box Turtle is using her back legs properly again! She was keeping her back plastron sealed tightly shut for the first couple weeks of her stay, but with pain medications and rest she is now moving like she should!

We are now anxiously awaiting the arrival of her eggs while healing continues!! If she gets to a point where she is ready to return home before she lays them, we will induce her so that she doesn’t have to worry about finding a nesting spot or risking crossing roads to find one she find suitable. We also do this to ensure there’s no problem with her being able to lay them or her retaining the eggs from the stress of captivity. It’s just one more way we make sure that she is fully functional before returning her.
