We have joined forces with the Santa Fe Doll Club in providing scholarships to the children of the Independence community. For the past 4 years we have found young adults in need of assistance to go college. We have a committee of three members who read all the applications and there are a lot. After careful deliberations the members are presented with three young adults to choose from. That task
is monumental. We don’t judge the student on grade point averages or their interest in the arts (however that would be wonderful as well) rather on the amount of need and their life challenges. We were amazed at the hardships the young people have surmounted and the desire to change their lives by going to school for a better education. In the past 4 years the IDEA has read hundreds of stories from students that are homeless to those that have overcome drug addictions. There are students that have gone back to school after dropping out and students that their parents have passed away leaving them to help with younger siblings as well as get an education. The stories touch your heart and make you weep. We wish we could give more to the scholarship fund than we can at this time. That is why we have made this one of a kind baby doll to Raffle off with all the proceeds going to the School District of Independence Foundation Inc. Aaron (Erin) is an heirloom doll that will be the Antique of the future. One that you will be proud to pass on to your children with the knowledge that you help young adults achieve their dreams. She is hand made from the pouring of the mold, cleaning of the piece, painting and firing of the doll. She was then assembled and dressed by the members of the club. There is a lot of love poured into this unique doll.
