Q: What did the fish say to the fly? 🐟

Tomorrow, we are taking an amazing group of foster kids out for their very first drift boat fishing adventure. We can’t wait to see the smiles when they cast their lines and reel in their first catch! Wish us luck! 🎣🛶

Tomorrow is a big day! 🎣 There is incredible excitement for the very first fishing outing for the season. The mission is to provide stability, joy, and lasting memories by the water. It is time to cast lines, build confidence, and celebrate nature! 💙

Can you guess what type of fish will be caught?

We are beyond thrilled to kick off our summer fishing season this weekend! Before our amazing youth get geared up and on the water, we will spend some time educating on the fundamentals of fly fishing, water conservation, and safety. Soon we will all be ready and it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful summer on the water. 🎣

Fishing is more than just a hobby for us—it’s a way to build confidence, learn patience, and find peace in nature. 🏞️

Why don’t trout play basketball? Because they are afraid of the net. 🐟

Small acts of generosity can create big change. This giving season, we are so thankful for all the indivduals who donate to our organization. Whether it is sharing a post, donating monetary contributions, giving time, or simply just talking about the organization helps us further our efforts to help the community.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you are wanting to donate to a non-profit organization for Giving Tuesday, please consider helping sponsor a child for our project. Thanks!

Our last mentor for the season! Meet Beau Davis!

Originally from Utah, I grew up fishing for trout in and around the Wasatch mountains (using a respectable amount of worms and power bait I might add), before eventually falling in love with East Idaho and flyfishing enough to buy a house with my wife in 2023. As my guiding experience in Yellowstone National Park and personal pursuits have taught me, I know the curative power that fly fishing can provide–and just how fun can be! I look forward to being part of the project and can’t wait to help share what knowledge I can.

Another mentor Monday! Meet Maren Davis!

Maren grew up in Idaho hunting, going on pack trips, fishing, camping, loving the mountains and rivers and the beautiful outdoors! Relatively new at fly fishing, she has found a passion and excitement and wants to share it with everyone she comes in contact with, hoping that they will find the depth of beauty, tranquility, and respect for the fish, rivers, and their fellowman. She is looking forward to being a mentor and hopes to instill life-changing moments for those in the Mayfly Project in her area.

Another mentor for this spring day! We are so excited for the weather to continue to get warmer. Meet Josh Merkel!

I grew up in Western New York where I learned to fish from my grandfather who took me on fishing trips from a young age. After learning how to fish for bass, pike, and panfish with conventional tackle I decided to pick up a fly rod after seeing others fly fishing the trout and salmon run in the tributaries of Lake Ontario. After graduating college, I moved west pursuing a career in land management, over the years I have lived in several states across the west and have been fortunate enough to fish many of the best rivers in the country. I moved to Idaho Falls in the summer of 2023 after taking a new job with the Forest Service and am looking forward to exploring the public lands of Eastern Idaho.

Another great mentor! Meet Corey Levin!

Corey grew up fishing the flats of West Central Florida for snook, tarpon, and redfish. Fishing has been a part of his life since he can remember. While fly fishing was introduced him early, Corey did not develop a passion for it until he settled down with his family in Teton County, Idaho. He was hooked the instant he got that first Cutthroat eat on the dry fly. He loves to share his fly fishing passion with others. Corey has worked with youth for many years in the snow sports industry and strives to have lasting positive impact in the lives of others.

Mentor Monday!!! Next mentor is Christopher Mouanoutoua.

“Christopher is a first-generation Hmong American outdoor educator. His ultimate goal is to remake the outdoors into a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive space for marginalized communities and BIPOC. He studied at Mount Olive College which is now formally known as the University of Mount Olive and earned his undergraduate degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies. Through The Mayfly Project, Chris hopes to cultivate ideas, create platforms, and make appropriate changes to benefit everyone in outdoor and educational spaces. He loves the inspiring atmosphere and vulnerability of the rivers + mountains. One favorite thing of his; is being able to work in wild places and be put in a position to mentor, play, and share his love for the natural world with those he encounters.
