A little thought from our director, Neisah Drain:
Our modernized, dystopian take on Macbeth comes from two places. First, Shakespeare can feel intimidating. His language and world can create a barrier between his works and audiences. By placing Macbeth in a world that feels more familiar, we hope to make Shakespeare recognizable and accessible to everyone who walks into our theater.
But more importantly, this dystopian setting is meant to remind us of something much more frightening: dictatorships and state surveillance are terrifying. Those who believe themselves to be above morality, accountability, or consequence can become consumed by the very power they seek to control.
