Re: Meeting with AEP representatives
Date: Jan 30, 2025 @ 2pm
Where: Estes Farm at the house.
We have arranged a meeting with some engineers and the Distribution Planning Manager from AEP at the proposed site for the new substation. They are involved in the planning of the proposed substation/distribution center next to our neighborhood and are attending to discuss their plans/receive input from us for the same.
As we are all aware, AEP is planning to build a substation distribution center on the property connected to our neighborhood. This is an opportunity to walk around the grounds with them and hear what they have planned. It is also an opportunity to express any concerns and ask questions. I strongly encourage you to meet at 2pm tomorrow to hear directly from these gentlemen.
As a backdrop, AEP reached out to some of us in the neighborhood last October, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Eric Tarr, to discuss concerns over surface water runoff issues and underground water springs, repair bills etc. After several discussions with AEP, they are now also looking at possible landscaping, location of the proposed facilities etc, giving us the chance for input. Many of us have experienced major repairs due to surface water runoffs and underground springs in the past. This is an opportunity you should take advantage of and have input in what may happen in our backyards.
We have expressed to AEP consistently that we do not want the substation built on the Estes Farm property. In turn we have been told that no decision is final at this time and that they have looked at 18 other properties, narrowed down to 2, but the Estes Farm location is favored by AEP due to its ideal location for distribution load. This will be explained in detail at tomorrow's gathering
I have taken their conversations to be informative and forthright. They have been honest about their planning, and they are expecting input from our neighborhood. This is the time to provide your input as well as educate yourself on what is happening.

We have a confirmed meeting with AEP reps this Thursday at 2pm. This meeting will take place on the property of the proposed substation. The purpose of the meet is for AEP engineers to hear our concerns about water drainage and underground water issues. In previous conversations AEP has been made aware we do not wish to have the sub station placed in this location. That stance has not changed. I encourage all to attend this meeting.

It’s been a while since the last update. AEP has reached out to us and is planning an open house in the spring to discuss the situation. Currently Meeks Mountain trails is off the table for the transmission lines. They are however still planning on using the property for the substation and distribution center in our backyards.
They vetting some other locations potentially for the distribution center.
We will be setting up a meeting in the next few weeks to discuss in greater detail. Please stay engaged, we will post meeting times on here and through text message.

I have been informed that AEP is currently reviewing each and every form with our questions and concerns. These are the forms that Tammy F has many of. Also the AEP scheduled time of October for their line decision has been pushed back to November. The substation location is in play, NOW is the time to let our public servants know how we feel. If you haven't called every name and number Theresa provides last week (August 14) you should reconsider and call each one and express your concerns. If you did not fill out the AEP form and you don't want the substation next to South Brooke, take ten minutes and complete the form and drop it off in our mailbox. Theresa and I will see that AEP receives them promptly. All these little things matter in this battle.

We the residents, business owners, visitors and patrons of Hurricane West Virginia are petitioning American Electric Power, to relocate the proposed electrical substation on Teays Valley road, and power lines slated to run through Meeks Mountain trails. Our residents and hundreds of volunteers have invested blood sweat and tears into the creation of the trails and this community. The proposed site is in our backyards between Southbrooke and Chase Park over Meek’s Mountain trails. This site is within walking distance of several schools. We are greatly concerned about the health and welfare of our families.
