Local Spotlight: JMusil Wines 🍇

What started as a fun family experiment with grape juice concentrate, a 5-gallon plastic bucket, and a love for trying something new has grown into something truly special.
The Musil family spent years researching, experimenting, and perfecting their winemaking techniques. In 2015, they planted their first 100 Frontenac grape vines and the vineyard has continued to grow ever since!
Today, J. Musil Wines is home to 600 vines, four varieties of grapes, and a berry patch, all created from a passion for crafting wines and sharing them with others.
In 2022, they took the next step and went commercial, bringing their handcrafted wines to the community so everyone could enjoy what started as a family passion.❤️

🚴Does Your Bike Helmet Fit Properly?🚴

Your helmet can only protect you if it fits correctly. Before every ride, remember these simple steps:

🪖 Level: The helmet should sit level on your head, not tilted back. It should rest low on your forehead, about two finger widths above your eyebrows.

✔️ Straps: Adjust the side straps to form a “V” just below each ear.

👄 Buckle: Fasten the chin strap so it’s snug. You should be able to fit just one or two fingers between the strap and your chin.

🤏 Shake Test: Gently shake your head. Your helmet shouldn’t slide around or shift. If it does, tighten the fit system or straps.

⚠️ Replace your helmet after any crash or every 5–10 years, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations and wear.

A properly fitted helmet can reduce the risk of serious head injuries. It only takes a minute to check, but it could make all the difference.

Do You Know the Proper Hand Signals for Cycling? 🤚

Using hand signals isn't just for experienced cyclists, it's one of the easiest ways to make every ride safer for you and everyone around you.

Here are the three basic signals every rider should know:
⬅️ Left Turn: Extend your left arm straight out to the side.
➡️ Right Turn: Extend your right arm straight out to the side. (You may also see the traditional signal of the left arm bent upward at a 90° angle.)
🛑 Stopping or Slowing: Extend your left arm downward with your palm facing behind you.

Why are hand signals so important?
-They let drivers know what you're about to do.
-They help fellow cyclists ride safely in a group.
-They reduce confusion and help prevent crashes.
-They make you a more predictable and confident rider.

Before making any signal, always check over your shoulder to make sure it's safe to move, and return both hands to the handlebars as soon as you can safely do so.
Whether you're riding around town, on the bike path, or out on the highway, a simple hand signal can make a big difference.

These past few days have been absolutely gorgeous, and we’ve been taking full advantage by putting on the miles. It’s been so good to see so many people out walking, biking, and enjoying the weather. One thing I love most about our town is the bike path we already have……but imagine how much better they could be if they were fully connected and complete. Safe, accessible trails don’t just benefit cyclists. They give families a place to spend time together, kids a safe route to ride, walkers a peaceful escape, and visitors another reason to stop and explore our community.

These kinds of improvements don’t happen by accident. They happen when we invest in our hometown. Every time we choose to shop local, we’re helping keep tax dollars here to support projects that make our community a better place to live, work, and play. If we want our town to continue growing and offering great amenities, it starts with all of us. Support local businesses whenever you can, get outside, enjoy what we have, and let’s keep working toward an even better future.

Opt outside. Ride more. Shop local. Build a stronger community together. 🚲

Hit the pump track once and then spent some of the morning riding the trails in Mitchell! I didn’t realize how much of a workout mountain biking actually is! But there is something so rewarding about being outside, learning something new, and pushing yourself a little further each ride. 🙌🏻

If you haven’t, now is the time to get signed up! You can choose from different route options depending on how far you want to ride, whether you’re looking for a fun, relaxing ride or a bigger challenge, there’s something for everyone!
We’ve been participating in Tour de Corn for several years, and it’s always a great time! It’s a wonderful way to get outside, enjoy the ride, meet other cyclists, and experience a fun community event.
