We are proud to introduce our sixth Founding Nonprofit Partner, The Roxie Douglas Scholarship Foundation and Learning Institute. Their purpose is to assist the students in Huntsville ISD in improving their academic skills in the After-School program and awarding them with scholarships to attend college or a technical institute when they graduate. The Roxie Douglas organization also provides children and the community with positive activities such as the Bnard Gambrell Spelling Bee, Barbara Wiggs Fun Day in the Park, a Scholarship Fashion Show, Roxie Douglas Scholarship Banquet, Living Legend Gala, Health Fair & Walkathon, Thanksgiving Giveaway and Christmas Toy Giveaway.

Later this fall we will introduce you to our President’s Advisory Council, but today, we want to introduce you to one of the members.

Dr. Kathleen Gilbert is an invaluable member of The Volunteer Collaboration team. She brings a wealth of knowledge of higher education, a deep understanding of food insecurity, and, most importantly, a genuine passion for service.

Last week, Dr. Gilbert was recognized by the SHSU Alumni Association for her lifetime of service-a well deserved honor for someone who has dedicated so much of her life to making a difference in our community.

We are grateful to have her as part of our team.

We are proud to introduce our fifth Founding Nonprofit Partner the COME Organization. The COME Organization’s purpose is to promote awareness and support to Walker County Residents, and they operate their Utility Assistance Program, their Emergency Assistance Program for families called At Risk Program, and other outreach programs for seniors, families and students which includes a scholarship program.

The COME Resale Store provides affordable shopping for all. It also has a free clothing program for Walker County Residents and assists victims of emergencies with clothing and household items. Profits from the Resale Store are used to provide utility assistance to those in need.

There are only a few items left on our Amazon Wish List if you’ve been thinking about purchasing something. There are napkins, plates and cups for our fall launch event, acrylic display items for networking and speaking engagements and a couple of office supplies.

Bridget is a proud graduate of Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University. After thirty years serving in congregational ministry, she retired in 2022 to move home and now serves as the Night Circulation Supervisor for the Newton Gresham Library at SHSU.

She has a long history of community volunteerism from serving on numerous nonprofit boards and in leadership roles as a PTA President, with Alpha Gamma Delta International, and with the Junior League of Collin County and the Junior League of Arlington, TX.

She holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Grant Writing from Collin College, as well as a Fundraising Certificate from The Center for Nonprofit Management & M. Gale & Associates.

When she’s not working or volunteering, Bridget enjoys cheering on the Huntsville Hornets, taking cruises, and living downtown with her dog, Kringle.

As President and CEO of The Volunteer Collaboration, Bridget brings a passion for service, collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to strengthening the Huntsville community.

Debbie is a retired Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), having worked in several banks during her career. She was previously on the board of an organization in North Georgia serving victims of domestic violence. Debbie has recently joined the board of SAAFE House in Huntsville, Texas, with the same function.

She is passionate about providing assistance to underserved families and seniors in the community. She holds a degree in management from Texas A & M and lives in Huntsville with her husband and their dog, Atticus Finch.

We are grateful for Debbie’s heart for service, extensive leadership experience, and unwavering commitment to strengthening our community through volunteerism and compassion.
