FIRST®, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. FIRST® in Alabama works toward these goals providing the FIRST® progression of programs, from FIRST® LEGO® League to the FIRST® Robotics Competition, that ranges from ages 4 to 18 years old. FIRST® in Alabama organizes competitive events in all FIRST® programs as well as non-competitive, showcase, training, workshops and informative events. FIRST® in Alabama provides support for new and existing teams in these programs by creating and maintaining a state-wide network of contacts within and across the FIRST® programs.
