Oh no! You’ve found a baby bird on the ground, apparently alone and in distress. 🐥 Its tiny chirps may pull at your heartstrings, and it can be tempting to spring into action—but, not all baby birds need rescuing. That's why it's so important to stop and assess the situation.

If they do need your help, how to help them depends on a few factors: does this bird need immediate medical attention? And is it a nestling or a fledgling? Take a look at this graphic to determine how and when to assist baby birds—then click the link in our comments to learn more!

Keith Kridler wrote these words that convey “The Bluebird Effect through Texas Bluebird Society” to Pauline Tom on Mom’s Day 2025. Together they co-founded Texas Bluebird Society in October 2001. This time 25 years ago, they were heavily into pre-development.
10,000’s human lives have been enriched by the Eastern Bluebird along with so many lifelong human connections through the efforts of Texas Bluebird Society.

It has been a gift and a blessing to have been a part of the "One Nestbox at a Time". Inspirational to so many people. The Peace and Joy those small Bluebirds bring into the lives of people. The life long connections to wonderful, caring people.

So, if plants make up about 1 percent of a bluebird’s diet, why does the Texas Bluebird Society mission statement emphasize planting native plants?
It’s because native plants attract the insects /“bugs”.
