🌺 Women's History Month Spotlight 🌺
In honor of Women’s History Month, we proudly spotlight Dr. Laurie Bone McCaulley, 1st Vice President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Huntsville Area Chapter.
Dr. McCaulley is a transformative leader and visionary community builder whose influence spans education, civic engagement, and social advocacy. She made history as the first African American woman elected to municipal office in Huntsville, Alabama, and went on to serve six impactful years as President of the Huntsville City Board of Education. Under her leadership, Huntsville City Schools successfully mediated a 50-year desegregation court order, launched a system-wide digital curriculum, and completed a $170 million capital improvement initiative—while graduation rates climbed dramatically from 36 percent to 86 percent.
A dedicated advocate for women and girls, Dr. McCaulley is the Immediate Past President of NCBW–GHAC, where she established signature initiatives including Because I Am a Girl and the Feminine Hygiene Project, earning Model Chapter recognition for three consecutive years. She currently serves on the National Education Committee.
Her civic service includes leadership with United Way and the Alabama A&M Regional Service Center, where she presented to international delegations from Africa, Asia, and Europe. As an ordained minister and First Responder Chaplain, Laurie’s faith-driven leadership continues to uplift families, strengthen communities, and inspire lasting change.
