Health Care For All - Cabell Co. WV

Health Care for All Cabell County is part of a state-wide campaign to expand and improve affordable health care coverage for West Virginians. Our campaign is built by organizations and individuals who are passionate and committed to seeing vast improvements in the affordability and accessibility of quality healthcare in our state. Along with West Virginians for Affordable Health Care, West Virginia Citizen Action Group, and West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy, we are working to make health care available to every West Virginian.

Our collaborative campaign started in 2019. We worked on a number of important policies and got bills passed in the 2020 Legislative Session that will positively affect the lives of tens of thousands of our people. With the help of hundreds of people who shared our information and action items, lobbied their representatives and supported our movement, we got legislation passed that capped insulin co-pays at no more than $100 a month. Some families were paying $400 a month for insulin, and these were families with insurance. We were hoping to cap the co-pay at $25, but it was still a monumental step in the mission to help people afford their life-giving medications. We also got a bill passed that altered the way our state uses some of its Medicaid funding to provide adults with Medicaid $1000 in dental coverage. Before that West Virginia only provided dental services to children on Medicaid. This is a life-changer for thousands who have been suffering without coverage and going without care. The third bill we supported was to catch up the ID Waiver waitlist. Before, families with children who had disabilities had to wait months or years on a long waitlist to get the services they desperately needed.

We accomplished these goals by working together with support from WV Senators and Delegates from both sides of the aisle and hundreds of folks that agreed with us that change can not come soon enough for many struggling West Virginia families.

This year, our legislative agenda has eight policies that we are hoping to turn into laws to better cover and protect West Virginians.
