OMD made its latest trip to try and help those who may need it…. Waited till the rain stopped today, then headed to the local grocery store to get apples, bananas, oranges, some single serve pretzel and cracker snacks, water, and yes though not too healthy- some soda. Went downtown first and found some individuals there. Since buses don’t run on Sunday, they usually sit at the bus stop on Second. Handed out some food and drinks, and spent sometime talking to a man who just started talking… he had a job for thirty years, had some bad luck, and now lives on the street with all he has. He had quite a bit of stuff with him, not sure how he moves it all around. Asked him what he could use besides food and drinks, and he said things I didn’t think of- Laundry cards to clean his cloths, lockers downtown to store things so that when he goes to see a doctor, he doesn’t have things stolen- and carts to carry things- things I wouldn’t think of but will work towards helping with whenever OMD can. Then headed to encampment down on Cameron, and quite a few individuals came up to get things and said to me” haven’t seen you in a while…thanks for coming back” …makes me realize I need to go up more often. Although I wish none of them had to live there, it is nice to be recognized and remembered as someone who has been there before. I think with time that they will trust me and know I am there to help anyway we can. Had one couple come up to me and ask if I could help them get propane, and of course I said yes. Took their tank to a local store and exchanged it for a new one. Bought them some milk as well as they had cereal back at there tent.
As I headed home, I was reminded again as to how blessed I am that I have a home to go home to. My life may not be without sadness and worry, but I am so lucky to have what I have. Most of the people at the encampment are people just down on their luck, and OMD will do whatever we can to help.

Down to Harrisburg this Friday to get some meals to any of the homeless community we could find. The girls went along, as they really do feel for that community as well. Stopped at the Soda Jerk in Htown first. Great local restaurant and they hooked me up with 20 grilled ham and cheese meals with chips and pickles in 20 minutes. Please check them out when you are in Hummelstown.
Then head downtown to Harrisburg. Busier during the week, so wasn’t quite sure what would happen. Checked in at Second and Market, individuals were there, but a security guy told me the business didn’t want me stopping there on their property. Completely understand… went around the corner and parked on Market and just called some individuals over there.
Then went to south Front Street. They are in the process of getting a new location for the homeless ( check out online) which hopefully will work out. A group called Amiracle4sure has put up the money for the lot, and please read about what they plan to do. After giving some meals out, the girls looked around…Ohara said ”momma there is a lot of trash. Can we come back and clean it up for the homeless?” Not joking- tears came to my eyes. 🥺I explained to her that the area will be an empty lot soon And told her why. We then headed to the new lot at South 9th street near Shanois Street. Saw individuals working there to set up the new encampment. Talked to a few of them, left the few meals we had left under the porch for the homeless there, then headed home. On the way home, Delaneigh said to me “ no one should be homeless momma, can we get them a house?“ oh baby girl if only OMD could. There may not be an ounce of my genetics in those girls, but their understanding of why OMD wants to do what it can just makes my heart swell with pride.🥰

Here’s the second stop on my trip to Harrisburg this past Sunday. Always amazed at how sweet and patient the individuals are who could use OMD’s little supplies. They are always very thankful, some give me amazing smiles, and there never is a supply left over. Need to always remember more water in the warm months…. And one of these days I will get a good video. Thank you to all that follow, share, and donate in any way. If we all continue to help those less fortunate, maybe- just maybe- we can actually help someone up from their current situation.

Late afternoon trip to Harrisburg today. Stopped by City Island again at the Water Golf food stand; they hooked me up with 40 hot dogs in about 15 minutes. They only charged me for 35- so great of them! Please visit them when you are City Island and get some snacks and food. Then headed to South Front Street; Had bags with toothbrushes/toothpaste, body wipes, hand wipes, deodorant, ChapStick, socks, and blankets. Also had some separate personal items for the woman if they needed them. Water as always, but I need to remember to take more; During the hot summer days, the water goes fast. Everyone was so nice, thanked me, and one of the guys there even remembered me from last time. Said he was so happy to see me again...Wish I could do more but today was another step along the way to doing whatever OMD can to help these individuals.
As I climbed back in my car to head home, I realized again just how blessed and fortunate I am. I wish they all could feel that way as well......

The girls helped me get some more bags of personal hygiene things together for hopeful trip to harrisburg Sunday. Absolutely love these kids!

Went down to Harrisburg today to give out some food and drinks. First stopped at Tico’s Tacos food truck on Derry street, just east of where Home Depot/ Urban air are. They were able to hook me up with 30 tacos, all individually wrapped, in less than 30 minutes. Talked to a gentleman who was sitting there waiting for his order and he assured me the food is great there. Please visit them for great Mexican food if you are driving down Derry Street.
Then headed to homeless encampment on Front Street. A large group was already there helping the homeless with some food ( so happy to see others helping), so off to Second and Market again. Found some gentlemen at Chestnut and Market and gave them some food and water first. Then parked next to Chase Bank. Put out a table for the tacos, and had apples, cracker packs, and peanut packs in bags. Delaneigh gave out the snacks, Ohara gave out the water, and I handed out the tacos. Everyone who took what we had was very thankful. They smiled at the girls and said thank you directly too them. Ohara had a smile the whole time. Love these kids…
As we got in the car, Delaneigh said it was too hot out there for them, and wanted to know if we could bring “ air ditioners” ( her words exactly) to them. I told her I wish it could be so simple…. They both said they want to do it again.
Unfortunately once again the little personal camera I got failed to work. Will just get harness for cell phone.

went to Harrisburg today to try and help those less fortunate. Went to City Island Water Golf because I know they have a food stand there, and I want to support small business as much as possible. The owners were great there, and in less than 30 minutes they had me stocked up with 20 orders of chicken and fries, and threw in a couple extra at no cost! If you go to City Island, please patronize these great people!
Then headed to the homeless community on Front Street. There was another group there handing out food, so didn't want to interfere...headed back to Market and Second Street as I know the homeless hang there as well. There was a group there, and they we all very happy to get some food and supplies. I am still trying to get a hang on the camera thing, so sorry for video quality... as I headed home afterwards, I felt bad I didn't have more to give out. OMD Compassion will be back though, and even if only for a brief moment we can help someone not feel hungry, we will continue to do what we can. Thank you for sharing, following, and supporting anyway you can.

Was hoping to make it up to Harrisburg today, but need to help a fellow coworker by covering her shift tonight and then working tomorrow. So need a little nap this afternoon. Will post next trip soon! Thank you all for getting the word out- so appreciate everyone!
