Last night, we enjoyed a brilliant and captivating presentation by Liliana Cracraft, “The Many Useful Products from Cactus and Other Succulents; Old and New.” It was both fascinating and inspiring to see just how versatile these plants really are. Thank you Liliana!!

We were also delighted by a visit from our youngest and newest cactus baby!

On top of that, there were plenty of free plants to share and lots of good conversations all around. Always a great time connecting with fellow plant enthusiasts!

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we’d love to see you at the next meeting.

What a special evening for our cactus club! 🌵
We were incredibly honored to host a world-renowned photographer in the cactus and succulent community, Irwin Lightstone, whose images most of us have admired for years.
His presentation was inspiring and full of practical tips on capturing plants — from lighting and composition to seeing the details others might miss.
We wrapped up the evening with dinner and drinks, and plenty more plant talk.

🌵 Great meeting, great talk, great food! 🌵

First presentation of the year
“Some Consequences of Adapting to Desert Life,” was given by Prof. Jim Mauseth of UT Austin, and it was absolutely fascinating.
Thank you Prof. Mauseth for sharing your time, knowledge, and expertise with our club.

Big thanks to John Weistroffer for saving the day with a last-minute location change.

It turns out Juarez Restaurant is the perfect spot for cactus enthusiasts and it’s quickly becoming our club’s new favorite meeting place! 🌮🌵

Dear HCSS members,

VENUE CHANGE FOR TONIGHT'S MEETING!!!

Metropolitan Multi Service Center is closed for the week. They are doing a deep cleaning of the building after it was a warming center during the cold.

We've reserved the party room at Juarez (same place we had the Christmas party) for tonight. 4145 Gessner Rd Ste F, Houston, TX 77080

We encourage everyone to attend at the different location tonight. You can even order a meal or just a drink.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

We wrapped up our 2025 Cactus year with a fantastic Christmas Dinner Party at a new location! 🌵✨
The entire restaurant was beautifully designed with cactus-themed décor that truly set the tone for the night. The atmosphere was festive, unique, and perfectly on theme.

A special thank you to Lauren and John for finding this great place and organizing such a wonderful Christmas dinner—we truly appreciate all the effort that made the night so memorable! 🎄🌵

What a great time at our latest meetup! After an excellent presentation, we got hands-on cleaning roots and learned why it matters — so much fun putting what we learned into action. Big thanks to John for teaching us and supplying all the plants we “tortured”! We had a blast learning, laughing, and getting a little messy together. 🌵
