Back in November 12 young men came together to represent Hudson Varsity Boys Basketball. From day one, they showed up ready to work, preparing for a tough opening test on the road at Red Hook.
That night didn’t go our way. We took a loss.
But in that locker room, something different happened.
There were no excuses. No finger pointing.
Just a group that came together and said: this is a lesson, not a loss.
From that moment on, I knew this team was special.
They came back the next day locked in—trusting the coaches, trusting the plan, and most importantly, trusting each other. Day by day, they grew… as players, as teammates, and as a family.
By the end of the regular season: 18–2.
Back-to-back Patroon Conference Champions.
But that wasn’t the goal.
This team wanted more.
As the #1 seed in Section 2—the first in my time as coach—we had a target on our backs. And every step of the way, these young men handled it with pride and composure.
A Section 2 title doesn’t come easy… and they proved that.
Down 12 in the championship against Lansingburgh, they never flinched. Never turned on each other. They fought—with heart, toughness, and belief—and completed the comeback.
That moment showed exactly who this team is.
Then came adversity.
Losing Elijah Walker after the title game could have shaken us—but not this group. They rallied around him, carried him with them, and embraced the “next man up” mentality.
Because that’s what family does.
They pushed forward and captured a Regional Championship… earning a trip to the Final Four—matching a mark only one other team in Hudson history had reached.
But they didn’t come this far just to match history.
They came to make it.
In Binghamton, with everything on the line, this group earned something no team in program history ever had…
A chance to play for a State Championship.
From an opening night loss… to the final game of the season.
They gave everything they had for 32 minutes—just like they had all year.
While the outcome wasn’t what we wanted, make no mistake:
This team are champions.
Forever etched in Hudson history.
