Those who serve our community shouldn't have to choose between their job and affording a home.

In Columbia and Greene Counties, essential workers—teachers, paramedics, social workers, firefighters—face impossible choices. They serve our community daily, but housing costs force many to commute hours or leave entirely.

Habitat believes that's unacceptable. Our mission focuses on ensuring the people who make our community work can actually afford to live here.

We partner with essential workers to build pathways to stable, affordable homeownership.

When we invest in housing for those who serve us, we invest in stronger, more sustainable communities for everyone. 💪

Advocacy doesn't have to be complicated or political—it can be as simple as a conversation.

You're already an advocate when you talk about affordable housing with friends over coffee. When you share posts about housing issues. When you mention to a neighbor why this work matters.

These everyday conversations shift perspectives and build awareness in your community.

Habitat's advocacy work in New York happens at all levels—from major policy campaigns to simple story-sharing. Not everyone needs to testify at hearings or call lawmakers (though you can!). Sometimes the most powerful advocacy is just talking honestly about why affordable housing matters to you.

Your voice doesn't have to be loud to make a difference. It just has to be authentic. 💙

Access is connection. When seniors can't safely access their homes, they lose more than mobility and community connection.

Our ramps program in Columbia and Greene Counties focuses on preventing senior isolation by ensuring safe access:

♿ Wheelchair ramps so seniors can leave their homes and participate in community life
🛁 Grab bars and accessible features so they can move safely through their spaces
🏠 Step and entryway repairs so getting in and out isn't a dangerous ordeal

These modifications do more than prevent falls—they prevent the isolation that comes when seniors become trapped in homes that no longer work for them. Safe access means staying active, connected, and independent in the community they love. 💙

Service is showing up, showing care, and showing our community what's possible—thank you to every volunteer who does exactly that.

Our mission runs on the dedication of volunteers like you. You frame walls, stock shelves, answer phones, serve on committees, and do countless other tasks that make homeownership possible for families in our community.

Your time, your skills, and your heart create impact that extends far beyond the hours you give. Every nail you drive, every family you support, every task you complete builds something bigger than any of us could build alone.

Thank you for being the hands and heart of Habitat's mission. We couldn't do this without you. 💙

Our neighbors who serve our community deserve to afford living here.

Teachers are educating our children. Firefighters protecting our homes. Nurses caring for our families. Police officers keep us safe. These essential workers make Columbia and Greene Counties run, but rising housing costs are pushing them out.

When the people who serve our community can't afford to live here, we all lose. That's why Habitat's work focuses on making homeownership accessible for first responders, educators, healthcare workers, and other folks who strengthen our community every day.

Everyone who builds our community should be able to build their life here. 💙

That's the power of service working both ways.

Good for the planet. Good for your budget. Good for your community.

Shopping at ReStore checks all the boxes:

♻️ Keeps usable items out of landfills
🌍 Reduces demand for new manufacturing and resource extraction
💰 Makes home improvement affordable without environmental cost
🏠 Funds affordable housing through sustainable shopping

Every ReStore purchase or donation extends the life of quality goods while supporting families working toward homeownership. That's how we build homes and protect the environment at the same time. 💙
