We want to take a moment to acknowledge information that has recently come to our attention regarding the past legal history of a former titleholder. This information was not known to the producers at the time the title was awarded nor during their title year and has only recently become part of public concern and conversation.

While HTLP is no longer an active organization as of last year, we feel it is important to continue to uphold the values the title was created to represent: accountability, safety, and care for our community. Our titleholders were created to be a positive force in the community and promote cooperation with the intent of changing all for the better. In this case, our mission was not followed by the titleholder and we apologize for our part in this mistake.

With that in mind, we have asked that the former titleholder refrain from using the Mr. Houston Leather title in public spaces moving forward.

We want to be clear: this statement is not about passing judgment on who someone is today. We recognize that people are complex and capable of growth. At the same time, we hold responsibility to the community connected to this title and the standards it was meant to uphold.

Our commitment remains rooted in survivor-centered values, transparency, and community well-being, may our legacy continue to support this commitment.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

What an incredible ride it’s been! After more than a decade of service, celebration, and solidarity, we’re announcing the official retirement of the Houston Leather Family contest titles and the closing of HTLP.

Like any family, our journey together hasn’t always been rainbows and butterflies; it’s included challenges, tough conversations, and growth pains. But it’s also been full of heart, resilience, laughter, and fierce love. Through it all, we showed up for each other and built something truly special: a chosen family rooted in visibility, authenticity, and mutual support. HTLP was never just about titles as much as it was about creating space for Houston’s leather, kink, and fe**sh community to thrive.

While we recognize that these times bring real struggles for many, we also know our legacy stands strong. The memories, the milestones, and the movement we’ve been part of will continue to ripple through our community. This may be the end of an era, but it’s far from the end of the story.

We also want to be transparent about the very real challenges that led to this decision. Hosting events (especially ones that reflect the heart and scale of this community) requires significant time, energy, and resources. Financial strain, ongoing concerns about safety and security, and the limited availability of our small but dedicated group of volunteers have all made it increasingly difficult to sustain the kind of experience HTLP has long envisioned. Our gratitude for those who have continually stepped up cannot be overstated, but we also recognize that it isn’t sustainable to rely on the same few people to carry the weight year after year.

To every titleholder, volunteer, attendee, and supporter who helped shape this journey, thank you. And especially to those of you who served on our judges panels, we are grateful that you brought your unique personalities and perspectives to our contest and helped us show Houston the rich diversity of the national and international leather communities and provided mentoring to our contestants and titleholders that brought out their best and brightest. Whether you’re still walking alongside us or have passed on and left your imprint in our hearts, your passion and presence made HTLP what it was. We carry your legacy forward with gratitude, pride, and reverence.

To the Houston leather and kink community thank you for showing up year after year, cheering on contestants, and lifting up titleholders not just on the stage, but throughout their title year. Your energy, generosity, and spirit created a space where people could take the spotlight, share their truth, and represent with pride. You were never just an audience, you were the heart of the celebration. We hope that our titleholders were able to return the favor and helped unite and grow our Houston community.

Here’s to everything we’ve built.

With love and leather,
