The Most Venerable Thích Quảng Độ entered monastic life at a young age and soon became known as a distinguished Buddhist scholar.
However, what made his life truly remarkable was not merely his profound scholarship, but his unwavering dedication to the Dharma, the nation, and all sentient beings.
Throughout his life, he witnessed and endured many upheavals in the history of Vietnam.
Yet in every circumstance, he steadfastly upheld the ideal of a true monastic:
“Serving sentient beings is the highest offering to the Buddhas.”

Nam Mô Bổn Sư Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật.
Kính bạch Chư Tôn Đức Tăng Ni,
Kính thưa quý vị quan khách, quý đồng hương và toàn thể quý Phật tử,
Hôm nay, trong không khí trang nghiêm và thành kính, chúng ta cùng vân tập nơi đây để tưởng niệm Lễ Húy Nhật lần thứ sáu của Đức Cố Đệ Ngũ Tăng Thống – Đại Lão Hòa Thượng Thích Quảng Độ, một bậc cao tăng thạc đức, một bậc long tượng của Phật giáo Việt Nam trong thời đại đầy biến động của lịch sử.
Sáu năm đã trôi qua kể từ ngày 22 tháng 2 năm 2020, ngày Đức Đại Lão Hòa Thượng xả bỏ báo thân, an nhiên thâu thần thị tịch.
Nhưng sự viên tịch của Ngài không phải là sự mất đi, mà là sự hòa nhập của một bậc chân tu vào dòng sinh mệnh bất tận của Phật giáo Việt Nam.
Thân tứ đại có thể tan hòa theo định luật vô thường, nhưng đạo hạnh và chí nguyện phụng sự của Ngài vẫn còn lưu dấu sâu đậm trong tâm thức của Tăng Ni, Phật tử và những ai trân trọng các giá trị chân – thiện – mỹ của cuộc đời.

Một đời vì Đạo pháp và Dân tộc
Đức Đại Lão Hòa Thượng Thích Quảng Độ xuất gia từ thuở thiếu thời và sớm nổi danh như một bậc học giả Phật giáo uyên thâm.
Tuy nhiên, điều làm nên tầm vóc lớn lao của Ngài không chỉ là học vấn quảng bác, mà chính là một đời tận tụy phụng sự cho Đạo pháp, cho Dân tộc và cho tất cả chúng sinh.
Suốt cuộc đời mình, Ngài đã đi qua nhiều giai đoạn thăng trầm của lịch sử đất nước.
Nhưng trong mọi hoàn cảnh, Ngài vẫn giữ vững chí nguyện của người xuất gia:
Phụng sự chúng sinh là cúng dường chư Phật.
Chính từ lý tưởng ấy, Ngài đã sống trọn vẹn một đời tu hành và phụng sự, lấy từ bi làm gốc, trí tuệ làm sự nghiệp, và vô úy làm sức mạnh tinh thần.

Tấm gương của tinh thần vô úy
Điều khiến hàng hậu học và Phật tử khắp nơi kính ngưỡng nơi Đức Cố Tăng Thống không phải là địa vị hay quyền lực, mà chính là khí phách vô úy của một bậc Sa môn chân chính.
Trong những giai đoạn khó khăn của lịch sử, Ngài đã phải trải qua nhiều năm quản thúc và sống trong sự cô lập.
Nhưng dù ở trong hoàn cảnh nào, Ngài vẫn giữ trọn khí tiết của người tu sĩ.
Ngài không oán hận.
Ngài không sợ hãi.
Ngài chỉ kiên định bảo vệ một điều:
Sự thật.
Ngài từng nói một câu rất giản dị nhưng đầy ý nghĩa:
“Chúng tôi không chống ai cả.
Chúng tôi chỉ bảo vệ sự thật.”
Câu nói ấy không chỉ là lời khẳng định của một con người, mà còn là tiếng nói của lương tri và đạo đức trong xã hội.

Di sản tinh thần
Di sản mà Đức Cố Tăng Thống để lại không phải là những công trình vật chất.
Di sản lớn lao nhất của Ngài chính là một tinh thần sống.
Tinh thần ấy có thể được tóm lại trong ba giá trị cốt lõi của Phật giáo:
Trí tuệ – Từ bi – Vô úy.
Đó là lời nhắc nhở cho hàng Tăng Ni phải tinh tấn tu học, giữ gìn giới luật và hoằng dương Chánh pháp.
Và cũng là lời nhắc nhở cho hàng Phật tử phải sống một đời sống có trách nhiệm đối với Đạo pháp, Dân tộc và tất cả muôn loài quanh ta.

Ý nghĩa của ngày tưởng niệm
Hôm nay, tại Tu Viện Long Thọ Thiền Tông, chúng ta tổ chức Ngày Tu Học và Trai Nghi Cúng Dường nhân Lễ Húy Nhật lần thứ sáu của Đức Cố Tăng Thống.
Đây không chỉ là một nghi lễ tưởng niệm.
Đây còn là dịp để mỗi người chúng ta quay về quán chiếu lại chính mình.
Ta đã sống đúng với lời Phật dạy chưa?
Ta đã làm được điều gì cho Đạo pháp?
Ta đã đóng góp được gì cho xã hội và cho tha nhân?
Nếu ngày hôm nay giúp chúng ta khơi dậy những câu hỏi ấy trong tâm mình, thì đó chính là sự tưởng niệm sâu sắc và ý nghĩa nhất đối với Đức Cố Tăng Thống.

Kết luận
Kính thưa toàn thể quý vị,
Một con người có thể ra đi,
nhưng một lý tưởng thì không bao giờ mất.
Thân tứ đại của Đức Cố Tăng Thống đã trở về với cát bụi, nhưng tinh thần và đạo hạnh của Ngài vẫn còn sống mãi trong lịch sử Phật giáo Việt Nam và trong tâm thức của Tăng Ni, Phật tử khắp nơi.
Nguyện cầu Giác linh Đức Đệ Ngũ Tăng Thống Đại Lão Hòa Thượng Thích Quảng Độ cao đăng Phật quốc, thùy từ gia hộ cho Giáo hội được trường tồn, Đạo pháp được xương minh, dân tộc Việt Nam sớm vượt qua mọi khổ nạn, thế giới hòa bình và chúng sinh an lạc.
Sau cùng, thay mặt Giáo hội, chúng tôi xin chân thành tri ân Thượng tọa Trụ trì cùng chư Phật tử Tu Viện Long Thọ Thiền Tông đã trang nghiêm tổ chức lễ tưởng niệm đầy ý nghĩa này.
Xin trân trọng cảm tạ Chư Tôn Đức Tăng Ni, chư vị quan khách, đồng hương và toàn thể quý Phật tử đã quang lâm tham dự.
Kính chúc chư Tôn Đức và toàn thể quý vị vô lượng an lạc, cát tường và mọi Phật sự viên thành.
Nam Mô Bổn Sư Thích Ca Mâu Ni Phật.

THE SIXTH MEMORIAL ANNIVERSARY
OF THE FIFTH SUPREME PATRIARCH
MOST VENERABLE THÍCH QUẢNG ĐỘ

Namo Shakyamuni Buddha.
Respectfully to the Most Venerable Sangha,
Honorable guests, distinguished community members, and all devoted Buddhists,
Today, in an atmosphere of solemn reverence, we gather here to commemorate the sixth memorial anniversary of the Fifth Supreme Patriarch, the Most Venerable Thích Quảng Độ—a great and virtuous monk, a towering spiritual leader of Vietnamese Buddhism during one of the most turbulent periods in our nation’s history.
Six years have passed since February 22, 2020, the day when the Most Venerable peacefully relinquished his physical body and entered final nirvana.
Yet his passing was not an end.
Rather, it was the merging of a noble spiritual life into the enduring stream of Vietnamese Buddhist history.
The physical body, composed of the four elements, returns to nature according to the law of impermanence, but his moral courage, spiritual integrity, and lifelong dedication continue to inspire generations of monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists.

A Life Dedicated to the Dharma and the Nation
The Most Venerable Thích Quảng Độ entered monastic life at a young age and soon became known as a distinguished Buddhist scholar.

A Symbol of Fearlessness
What commands our deepest respect for the late Supreme Patriarch is not authority or position, but his fearless moral integrity as a true monk.
During difficult periods of history, he endured many years of restriction and isolation.
Yet regardless of circumstances, he maintained the dignity and noble conduct of a Buddhist monk.
He harbored no hatred.
He lived without fear.
He remained steadfast in protecting one simple yet profound principle:
Truth.
He once said words that were simple yet deeply meaningful:
“We oppose no one.
We only defend the truth.”
These words stand as a voice of conscience and moral clarity in society.

His Spiritual Legacy
The legacy left behind by the late Supreme Patriarch is not one of material achievements.
His greatest legacy is a spiritual example.
This spirit can be summarized in three essential values of Buddhism:
Wisdom – Compassion – Fearlessness.
This legacy reminds monks and nuns to diligently cultivate their practice, uphold the monastic discipline, and spread the true Dharma.
It also reminds lay Buddhists to live responsibly in service to the Dharma, the nation, and all living beings around us.

The Meaning of Today’s Commemoration
Today, at Long Thọ Thiền Tông Monastery, we gather for a Day of Practice and an Offering Ceremony to commemorate the sixth memorial anniversary of the late Supreme Patriarch.
This is not merely a memorial ritual.
It is also an opportunity for each of us to reflect deeply within ourselves.
Have we lived according to the Buddha’s teachings?
What have we done for the Dharma?
What contributions have we made to society?
If today’s gathering awakens these reflections within our hearts, then it is truly the most meaningful way to honor the late Supreme Patriarch.

Conclusion
Distinguished guests and respected members of the community,
A person may pass away,
but a noble ideal never disappears.
The physical body of the late Supreme Patriarch has returned to the dust of the earth, yet his spirit and moral example continue to live on in the history of Vietnamese Buddhism and in the hearts of monks, nuns, and Buddhists everywhere.
We respectfully pray that the spirit of the Fifth Supreme Patriarch, the Most Venerable Thích Quảng Độ, may ascend to the Buddha’s realm, and compassionately bless the continued strength of the Sangha, the flourishing of the Dharma, the liberation of the Vietnamese people from suffering, and the peace of the world so that all beings may live in harmony.
Finally, on behalf of the Sangha, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Abbot and the devoted Buddhists of Long Thọ Thiền Tông Monastery for organizing this meaningful memorial ceremony.
Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the Most Venerable Sangha members, distinguished guests, community members, and all Buddhists who have come to participate today.
May the Most Venerable Sangha and all of you be blessed with boundless peace, auspiciousness, and success in all wholesome endeavors.
Namo Shakyamuni Buddha.
May the Buddhas compassionately witness and bless us all.
