Prelude Music Foundation

Prelude Music Foundation Transforming the lives and enhancing the education of children in Houston through the power of music.

Prelude Music Foundation’s mission is to transform the lives and enhance the education of young children in Houston through the power of music. The Prelude Music Foundation serves Pre-K to Kindergarten age children, providing them with a weekly music and movement program during the most formative years of their development. Each week, early childhood specialists lead music and movement sessions, u

tilizing playful, developmentally appropriate activities from the research-based Music Together® curriculum. Our dynamic, high-impact program uses music as the tool to advance the cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and musical development of young children, geared to the way children naturally learn - through play! Through professional development workshops and online resources, participating classroom teachers receive tools for integrating music-based approaches into their curriculum to support their students' literacy and numeracy skills. Additionally, every child receives a songbook and parent education materials to take home. Prelude Music Foundation invests in the education and overall development of the students they serve by encouraging and facilitating active music participation both in school and at home. This school-home connection is integral in supporting continuous development, strengthening parent-child and community relationships, and instilling a life-long love of learning and music-making. We spread peace, love, and joy in classrooms, schools, and communities through interpersonal connection and active music-making. While Music Learning Supports All Learning®, absolutely no learning can happen unless a child (or adult!) feels safe and loved. Together with Apollo Chamber Players, Mercury Chamber Orchestra, the Community Embedded Musicians of the Houston Symphony, and All Kids Alliance, we support each other's efforts as the Prelude Music Foundation connects young children to the best of Houston's resources in the arts and early childhood education.

Last Thursday at Neff Early Learning Center, students, teachers, families, and musicians came together for one of our largest end-of-year celebrations.

Throughout the school year, music has been woven into the rhythm of classroom life — supporting listening, coordination, connection, and joyful learning. Seeing so many young learners share in that experience together was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

We extend our thanks to Houston Symphony for their partnership and to The Junior League of Houston, Inc. and Texas Commission on the Arts for their support in helping bring consistent, meaningful music experiences to early childhood classrooms across our city.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we are especially grateful for the classroom educators who partner with us across Houston.

Each week, our music specialists work alongside teachers who are deeply committed to their students’ growth — academically, socially, and emotionally. Their openness, collaboration, and consistent engagement make meaningful music experiences possible in the classroom.

We see the care, preparation, and dedication that teachers bring to their work every day.

Thank you for the vital role you play in supporting young learners and strengthening our community.

We are honored to have been featured on local news this week, highlighting the story behind Prelude Music Foundation and the impact of music in early childhood classrooms across Houston.

Founded 11 years ago by Ana Treviño-Godfrey and Jonathan Godfrey, PMF now serves more than 3,300 pre-K students each week across 20 schools — bringing consistent, developmentally appropriate music experiences to neighborhoods that don’t always have access.

Thank you to Len Cannon KHOU for taking the time to share this story. We’re grateful to our school partners, musicians, and supporters who help make this work possible.
