The Nancy Owens Breast Cancer Foundation was honored to tour the Department of Nanomedicine at the Houston Methodist Research Institute. The tour was led by Corrine Ying Xuan Chua, Ph.D. and the incredible team behind the Grattoni Lab. While Alessandro Grattoni, Ph.D. was out of town, we were thrilled to connect with him via FaceTime during our visit.

Our day began in the teaching laboratories, where we observed research and training in progress and learned how Houston Methodist's innovations help physicians develop new techniques and treatment options to provide the very best patient care. We then toured the research laboratories, where we had the unique opportunity to get hands-on demonstrations of how nanotechnology devices work and how they may transform the future of cancer treatment.

The experience was filled with inspiration, hope, and a renewed determination to raise even more funding for breast cancer research. At a time when federal research funding is being reduced, support from organizations like the Nancy Owens Breast Cancer Foundation is more critical than ever. Every dollar raised helps advance groundbreaking research and brings us one step closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Record-Breaking Success!

Fashion for the Cure at Tootsies raised more than $55,000 for local breast cancer research!

Presented by Aspire Commercial, this inspiring evening brought together Houston’s fashion, real estate, medical, and philanthropic communities to support one mission—funding research and helping find a cure for breast cancer.

✨ Committee Member Spotlight ✨

Meet Modie Piperi, an FFC Co-Chairman and all-around fun energy on the NOBCF committee! 💗 Modie has been involved for 3 years and brings passion, heart, and incredible dedication to everything she does.

Modie volunteers to honor her mom—a three-time breast cancer survivor—and all women impacted by breast cancer. As someone who carries the BRCA gene and has undergone a preventive double mastectomy, she is deeply committed to spreading awareness and using her voice to support others through NOBCF. For her, NOBCF is all about community—a place to share stories, support one another, and turn experiences into meaningful impact.

She is especially proud of becoming FFC Co-Chairman and is passionate about continuing to grow the event and expand NOBCF’s reach.

Professionally, Modie is a Real Estate Agent and Director of Operations for The Moving Houston Team, bringing strong work ethic, creativity, and connection-building skills to the organization.
