Channelview Senior Citizens Channelview Seniors In 1973 a group of five or six ladies started meeting in the old Flukinger Store building on Market Street.

The same year another group of fix or six ladies were meeting their homes.
1974 - All the ladies began meeting in the Flukinger Store building making ceramics.
1975 - Then Channelview Senior Citizens were organized.
1977 - Commissioner Jim Fonteno of Precinct 2 wanted to start a senior program & found our group of ladies all gather at the Flukinger Store building.
1978 - Commissioner Fonteno got u

s an old school bus, which was quickly named "The Blue Goose". Several trips were enjoyed in that old bus. We're still talking & laughing about it!
1981 - The Channelview Senior Citizens moved into the new Channelview Community Center at 16003 Lorenzo Street, and the Commissioner bought a 40 passenger bus actual heart & A/C. This bus was named the "Fun Bus".
1982 - The Channelview Community Center was renamed "The V.V. Ramsey Center" after former Commissioner Ramsy.
1999 - In June, a new larger & modern building was opened next door named the "Martin L. 'Butch' Flukinger" building in honor of Butch who helped us all from the beginning. During our two decades plus, we have enjoyed many trips, activities and blessings.
