Last night we celebrated the grand opening of the Greater Houston Coalition for Justice office. From setting up the space to cutting the ribbon, it was a night filled with community, energy, and purpose.

We welcomed friends, leaders, and advocates, shared food and stories, and honored the legacy of Johnny Mata, whose 50+ years of advocacy continue to inspire our work.

This space represents not just a new beginning, but the continuation of a legacy — honoring Johnny Mata, our founder and chairman, whose unwavering advocacy has spanned for nearly 50 years. His undying commitment to justice, equality, and the people of Houston has paved the way for generations to come.

Greater Houston Coalition for Justice – June In-Person Meeting Recap

📍 Leonel Castillo Community Center
🗓️ 10am-12p Saturday, June 7th 2025

Today’s meeting was a productive one with 15 in-person attendees and 6 joining us via Zoom.

Key Topics Discussed:
• Activation, building, and structuring of the Victim Rights Committee
• Importance of community education and advocacy
• Review and discussion of two active cases
• Two impactful presentations by special guest speakers, including one on updates from the 89th Legislative Session

Our 2nd meeting of the month will be held via Zoom and will focus on follow-up actions, old business, and new planning items.
