Hello, Friends and Neighbors.
This is a reminder of our upcoming meeting with the county’s engineering department concerning our request for speed bumps on Sandydale and Countrywood.

In the East Aldine District office building
2909 E. Aldine Amphitheater Drive (behind BakerRipley on Aldine-Mail Rte.)

As you may know, the county has determined that we are eligible for the speed bumps on Sandydale and Countrywood, AND also on the three other streets that run north and south between Otterbury and Sandydale. That means Fantasy, MacNaughton, and Boreas will also get speed bumps.

The next step we need to complete in order for the speed bumps to be installed is getting two-thirds (2/3) of the residents living within Sandydale, Countrywood, Otterbury, and Boreas to sign a petition agreeing to the speed bumps.

You’d be surprised how many households are within that area. I'm estimating at least 300 households. That's why we'll need everyone’s help in order to get two-thirds of the residents to sign the petition. We'll have 60 days in which to get the petition signed.

Please plan to attend the meeting on July 30. The county will be there to show us where the speed bumps will be installed, the type of speed bumps, and to share other pertinent information with us.

Sat., 7/11/26 - Today, Kenneth and I attended a very informative session on Deed Law at the Leonel Castillo Community Center. Many of my day-tripper friends were there. Since we're all seniors, we had a lot of questions for Attorney Armando A. Diaz and his wife and legal assistant, Yvette De La Fuente Diaz, on how to best "Will" or pass on our assets to family and loved ones, especially our properties. Stella Mireles and I won a free "Will" to be prepared by Attorney Diaz. Since I've already got a Will, I gave my prize to another senior who did not yet have a will. Special thanks to Attorney and Mrs. Diaz for their presentation, and thanks to Mario and Pearl for organizing the Deed Law information session. Marina, Board Member, Green Forest Civic Club

Wed., 7/8/26 - State Rep. Armando L. Walle held a town hall meeting on this date. Rep. Walle gave his constituents such a good update that we made him stay the entire two hours. He also thoroughly explained what it takes to get a bill passed, and how he is constantly working to bring some of our tax dollars back to District 140. Thank you Rep. Walle--and your dedicated staff!--for all you do for our district. We're looking forward to your next town hall. We want to also thank American Legion Post 0586 for letting the Rep. use their facility for the town hall. Last, but not least, thanks to all who performed their civic duty by attending. I was glad to see many of Rep. Walle's East Aldine constituents there, too. Marina, GFCC Board Member.

Friday, June 26, 2026 - Thank you to our Fairgreen subdivision neighbors who attended yesterday's civic club meeting. We received an update on our request for speed bumps from Jorge Bustamante of Commissioner Adrian Garcia's office. We were also visited by Laisha Ramirez of State Senator Carol Alvarado's office. GFCC appreciates that Senator Alvarado makes sure someone from her office always attends our meetings. Laisha assured us that the Senator was very concerned about the tire recycling plant fire and was doing everything possible to keep these types of disasters from happening. GFCC Board Member Juliana Hernandez who works for Air Alliance Houston spoke about the investigations AAH is working on. She also said AAH has three more air quality monitors designated for installation in East Aldine, free of charge. One has already been installed at a Fairgreen residence located within a mile of three concrete plants. Readings on that particular monitor showed a big spike during the recycling plant fire. The proposed installation of another monitor is at or near James Driver Inclusive Park which is right next door to a concrete batch plant. Other topics of discussion included air pollution, local election results, streetlights, water district 74, the "Reimagine Aldine-Mail Route" project, and starting an Adopt-a-Drain program. Tabled until next month's meeting was changing the boundaries of GFCC. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, 7/30/26, same place and time. Please mark your calendars. This will be a very important meeting at which Jorge and team will give us a final presentation of where the speed bumps will be installed. Jorge told us last night that some of the north-south streets will also get speed bumps. The 60-day countdown for getting signatures on their petition will begin then. Please plan to attend. UPDATE: Not many residents attended. The ones that did attend submitted comments and made suggestions as to what they wanted to see on Aldine-Mail Route. Primary concern was "medians." Some people want them, others do not. Two of my suggestions are being considered: A traffic signal light on AMR @ Fantasy (by Church's Chicken), and a safe left-turn lane for west-bound traffic trying to enter the High Meadows Branch Library parking lot. I don't know if Pct. 2 will be having another community meeting. If they schedule one, I'll post it on our GFCC page. Marina Flores Sugg, Board Member, GFCC, [email protected]
