Thursday, April 30, 2026 - We had a good turnout at this special meeting of the GFCC. Residents of the Fairgreen Sec. 2 subdivision came to receive an update and presentation from Harris County on GFCC's request for traffic-calming devices (aka, speed bumps) for their neighborhood. At the next meeting on Thursday, May 28, we will receive updates on the following: 1) the area we will have to canvass in order to get signatures for the required petition; 2) the results of the traffic speed strips; and, 3) the location of the speed bumps.

๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ•Neighbors, please stop dumping your unwanted pets. This is morally wrong in so many ways. Google. Look for low-cost or free spay/neuter clinics or events. Get your pets fixed. Lock up your females when they come in heat. There are signs to look for that indicate they are "receptive" or can become pregnant. Google. Be a responsible pet owner. It's up to us to control this problem. Just saying. Marina, Green Forest Civic Club (of East Aldine), [email protected]

TEXAS ANIMAL RESCUE CRISIS โ€” IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED

To: Governor Greg Abbott, Texas State Legislators, U.S. Representatives, and U.S. Senators
We, the undersigned, are demanding immediate action to address the escalating animal crisis across Texas.
Animal rescues are not just overwhelmedโ€”we are drowning.
Every day, towns across Texas are seeing an alarming increase in dumped dogs. Dogs are being abandoned on back roads, left at closed shelters, tied to fences, or simply turned loose to fend for themselves. Entire litters are being discarded like trash.
At the same time, backyard breeders continue to flood the population, producing litter after litter with little to no accountability. While rescues are begging for help and turning dogs away due to lack of space, more dogs are being intentionally brought into an already overrun system.
The Reality:
Dogs are being dumped daily. Rescues, animal control, and the public are witnessing a surgeโ€ฆ

Oh, and it's FREE ๐Ÿ’ต! Marina, exercise instructor.

Starting Wednesday, April 15, the Deputy Darren Almendarez Community Center will be closed for improvements. This work is expected to take up to four weeks.
