Today feels a little softer, a little warmer, because of the women who have poured love into our lives in ways both big and quiet.

The mothers who prayed over us.The grandmothers who held families together.The bonus mothers, aunties, caregivers, and mother figures who stepped in, showed up, and gave from the heart.

So much of who we become is shaped by their wisdom, sacrifice, tenderness, resilience, and unwavering love.

Today, the Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated celebrates the women who nurture generations and strengthen communities simply by the way they love others.

May today bring you flowers, laughter, rest, cherished memories, and the reminder that your care has never gone unnoticed.

A message of care from Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated (MCCL).

Some conversations are uncomfortable. We should have them anyway.

Through Black K.A.R.E., Kidney Awareness, Resources and Education, MCCL is encouraging our community to talk openly about kidney health, screening and organ donation.

Kidney transplants save lives. And when more people understand the need, register as organ donors and talk with their families, more patients may have a chance at life.

Start with your own health, and the health of your loved ones.

Know your risk.
Ask your doctor about your kidney health.
Get screened, especially if you have diabetes or high blood pressure.
Talk with your family about organ donation.

One conversation could protect your health.
One decision could help save a life.

📢CARE TRAVELS THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS

Who reminds Daddy about his physical?
Who makes sure Auntie gets to the follow-up?
Who texts their brother, “did you do the bloodwork yet?”

In our community, care travels through relationships. Right now, that care needs to include kidney health.

Black Americans experience kidney failure at more than three times the rate of white Americans because of long-standing gaps in screening and access.

Simple blood tests can catch chronic kidney disease early, often before symptoms show up at all. If someone you love lives with diabetes or high blood pressure, this message is for them. And for you.

That’s why the Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is launching Black K.A.R.E. — Kidney Awareness, Resources and Education — in our community. It’s a national initiative of The Links, Incorporated, and we’re bringing the conversation to our community.

The ask is simple. See your doctor. Request the bloodwork. Ask about your kidneys.Especially if you’re living with diabetes or high blood pressure. Simple tests can tell you where you stand. Early detection changes everything.

Health and civic engagement often go hand in hand.

At the Black Family Wellness Expo, the focus wasn’t only on screenings and wellness resources — it was also about equipping our community with the knowledge and power to shape the systems that impact our health.

Dr. Annie J. Benifield, CEO and President of the Houston Voting Initiative, spoke with attendees about the importance of participating in upcoming runoffs and staying informed about candidates whose decisions affect healthcare access and other issues impacting our communities.

Throughout the day, new voters were registered and conversations sparked around the role civic participation plays in building healthier communities.

Because strong communities don’t just prioritize wellness — they show up, stay informed and make their voices heard.

Runoff races are in full swing. Your voice is your power.
