Last week a devastating flash flood struck Northern Nepal near the Tibet border. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and over a thousand remain missing. Beyond this staggering human toll, homes, roads, bridges, and local economies have been swept away.

We have reached out to our Freedom Business Members in the region. Most have confirmed that they and their staff are safe, though some staff members have families living in the affected areas who have been impacted. As we know, rebuilding communities and protecting vulnerable individuals following a disaster is long and difficult work.

These businesses in Nepal are doing that long, steady work year-round, and today they need our support. Here are 6 Freedom Businesses you can follow, shop or support TODAY.

We're delighted to share that earlier this year, the board officially approved Adisyn Pyles as our new CEO. Adisyn brings over 14 years of experience in the nonprofit and freedom business sectors and has been a Member of FBA herself. As founder and former CEO of Red Oak Hope, she helped launch and lead programs to serve more than 600 survivors of human trafficking across nine countries. She also co-founded Freeleaf, a freedom business that provided employment and holistic care to over 30 women overcoming exploitation in Asia. Her expertise spans strategic planning, financial leadership, communications, and program development, and her passion for the freedom business movement is deeply personal.

In her own words, “I’m honored to step into this role because of my relentless belief in freedom, hope, and restoration— both for survivors of trafficking and for leaders. I’ve seen firsthand how business and economic opportunity can break cycles of exploitation, and I’ve experienced the power of collaboration to strengthen this movement. I’m excited to lead FBA into this next season, and TOGETHER, I believe we can expand the Freedom Business movement and create opportunities for even more survivors to thrive."

We look forward to the leadership and vision Adisyn will bring as we enter this next chapter at the Freedom Business Alliance. Please drop a comment to join us in welcoming her!

The Board of Directors of Freedom Business Alliance announces the upcoming departure of our Executive Director, Karen Schmidt.

In her own words, “After an incredible season of building, connection, and collaboration, I have discerned that my season as the Executive Director for the Freedom Business Alliance has come to an end. This decision was not made lightly, but with deep reflection and conviction.

We’ve laid a powerful foundation, and I am genuinely to see the next leader build upon it and take the Freedom Business movement to new heights. I’m incredibly proud of our small but mighty team and deeply grateful to our members, whose work is creating lasting change.”

Karen has been a steadfast advocate for the global freedom business movement. Her leadership has led to vital partnerships with anti-trafficking and philanthropic allies, geographic expansion across Europe and Africa, and the development of practical tools that equip businesses to offer dignified employment to survivors of human trafficking.

Under Karen’s guidance, FBA grew into an organization ready to influence the mainstream business sector. Her collaboration with the Christian Economic Forum culminated in the forthcoming launch of WellWork, a training platform designed to multiply safe employment opportunities around the world. She also prioritized survivor leadership to advise FBA’s programming and launched a pro-bono legal support network to serve our members.

We are deeply grateful for her service and the legacy of purpose she leaves behind. As we begin the process of identifying new leadership, we invite you to join us in honoring Karen’s impact. The mission of FBA endures, and we remain committed to advancing economic solutions to human trafficking through the vibrant work of our members around the globe.
