Today is World 🌍 Gratitude Day 🙏🏽

Learn about World Gratitude Day
World Gratitude Day has been designed to bring the whole world together in a day that is all about being thankful. World Gratitude Day joins organizations, nationals, and individuals in sharing their gratitude in a number of different ways.
A little bit of gratitude can go a very long way. It is important for people to feel appreciated for everything that they do. There are also many other benefits that are associated with giving gratitude. Did you know that it is actually good for your own health too? Being thankful results in a whole host of emotional and physical benefits. For instance, you can boost your immune system, lower stress levels and improve sleep by being thankful.
If that was not enough, gratitude can also help to improve self-esteem and lower symptoms of depression. If all of this was not enough, you can enhance your professional and social skills too. Who knew that expressing gratitude could offer so many amazing benefits?
History of World Gratitude Day
The celebration started in 1965 in Hawaii when an international gathering decided that it would be a good idea to have one day per year to formally express gratitude and appreciation for the many wonderful things to be found in the world. Following the meeting in Hawaii, many attendees marked Gratitude Day on 21st September 1966 when back in their own countries. Ever since then, the number of people celebrating Gratitude Day across the world has grown and grown.

BRAVO to the Utah Attorney General’s Office & the SECURE STRIKE FORCE! After a 5 +month investigation, they were able to raid 6 massage parlors wherein female victims were forced into s*x trafficking work. We are hopeful that the women are offered victim centered and wholistic trauma informed care so that they are empowered to heal and move forward with their lives!

“We are pleased that we are able to work with our law enforcement partners and the Asian Association of Utah as these women recover from the trauma they have endured.”You can read more about the story here:

The Utah Attorney General’s office announced a bust of a massage parlor criminal enterprise in Northern Utah on Wednesday, which resulted in three arrests.

This is a definite challenge…How do we make ourselves more available, not only to care for ourselves but for our families & closest friends & neighbors?

🪴 Today, I challenge you to think of yourself as a plant. 🌱 In order to thrive, prosper or flourish on the daily-we must recharge. Just like a plant flourishes when it receives the nourishment it requires; a similar idea applies to humankind. We must nourish ourselves in all of the proper ways. Getting adequate amounts of ☀️ Sun, shade, 💦 water, food and growing roots (I.e. establishing stability and security) all support a plant’s positive growth and the same can be said about people. It’s not even enough to nourish ourselves once a week or once a month-this is a daily process that we must repeat in order to lead a thriving life. Recovering, replenishing and sleeping are equally important to being productive , working & playing. 🌳💧🌲

This is your weekly pep talk from Lovely Lauren, founder/director of Written On Your Heart! Maya Angelou describes thriving as elegant. Do you agree? According to dictionary.com, elegance means, “tastefully fine or luxurious in dress, style, design, etc: gracefully refined & dignified.” Now, I hope that you remember that you are capable of creating a full and beautiful life for yourself; an elegant life that is tasteful, sophisticated & discerning. A trainer who I took a workshop from said that “the greatest revenge you can have is to live a happy [full] life.” This wisdom appears to be true in my own life and I wholeheartedly believe that when you grow from a state of surviving to a state of thriving , this visible movement in your life becomes a bold statement that exemplifies your resilience, your strength, your grit, your hard work and effort, your courage and bravery, all of the dark nights and low valleys that nobody saw-you know that you were in and processed through that dark place and you were able to get out of it somehow. You may not feel strong but you never gave up on yourself and even if you did-it was only for a moment or a season. You woke up; you fought back; you found the light again. You, YES YOU, possess an incredible amount of tenacity and endurance and an unbelievable work ethic. You my dear are elegantly thriving. Written by: Lauren Lisembee, MA #603

Surviving to thriving might look like:
Being honest with yourself.
Being kind to yourself.
Being gentle with yourself.
Slowing down.
Being with yourself.
Being there for yourself.
Being a friend to yourself.
Being with you.
Accepting yourself.
Being your whole self, fully.

Thriving=Slowing down & pacing yourself

Slowing down in order to process your thoughts and become more aware of what your body needs is apart of thriving. Becoming more aware of the pain, tightness and soreness in your body will allow you to feel well, better and more whole. This increased awareness of your body’s needs will help you to take care of your own needs and support you in communicating your needs to those around you. There is a sense of movement of push and pull as you guide yourself through healing. There is a push to heal yourself in order get better faster and there is a natural pull back (with self-compassion) when you need a break from fixing, healing and repairing yourself. This is normal and is called pacing your healing. Give yourself the gift of patience, time and compassion as you learn to let go of grudges; slowly embracing forgiveness, trust & acceptance. This starts with you accepting your whole self, including admitting& accepting your own limitations, your pain and your humanity. You will discover that as you offer yourself more kindness, your compassion capacity for others will organically multiply. To practice increased body awareness, you can look up “body scan meditation.” This is something that you can practice on your own, with a partner (safe and healthy) , with a close friend (safe and healthy) or with your licensed therapist. Thriving = Grit
Hey y’all, welcome to where we talk about all things thriving and how thriving may show up practically in our lives. Growing from surviving to Thriving means you stay steady, committed, consistent, dedicated and determined. You work hard and play hard and rest hard and practice grit when you’re putting in the invisible work to heal. An expert on grit, Margaret M. Perils describes grit as possessing all of these qualities simultaneously: courage, resilience, endurance, confidence, optimism, creativity and knowing the difference between perfection and excellence, Most of your healing is self-motivated and experienced behind closed doors including at home, in therapy, late nights and early mornings. According to the dictionary, Grit means to have “courage and resolve; strength of character.” Grit supports thriving because when nobody is watching, you maintain your integrity and you don’t give up on yourself. It’s important to remind all of us that when an external event happens (in our families, communities, nation and/or world), it’s okay to swing back into survival mode. Seeking support from safe and healthy people (including ourselves and our spirituality) and [safe and healthy] organizations can help us find our way back to thriving and for each person it may take a different amount of time to recover and “bounce back.” Giving yourself time and space to process and heal is a critical piece of moving along the survive to thrive continuum.
