Bid to Win a $4,000 Landscaping Package—Descendants Day Silent Auction Starts Now!

HAXEL LANDSCAPING has graciously donated a landscaping package for auction to our Greater Houston area descendants and donors.

This $4,000 retail value package includes professional conceptual sketch suggestions for your front or backyard for:

3 garden beds of your choice, including 10 flats of color

3 hours of garden clean up
detailed irrigation check with report

Color Star fertilizer enhancement for seasonal color

mulch application for 3 garden beds

Starting bid is $1,000.00. Bidding increments of $100. Bidding is open for one week.

To bid, all you need to do is send an email to [email protected]

Be sure to include your bid amount and all your contact information in the body of your bid.

WCA will post daily with the up-to-date high bid as well as closing the bidding at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24th.

You do not need to be present at the picnic to win.

The winner will be notified later in the afternoon of April 25th.

We hope everyone will participate in the bidding. WCA board members are not eligible to bid.

Grounds crew from Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park, pictured with Superintendent Lorenzo Valdespino (right), are clearing the east boundary of McDaniel Street Cemetery to the fence line in preparation for Descendants Day and the Community Picnic on April 25th. This volunteer community initiative is part of Brookside’s community engagement activities as WCA’s sponsor for this year’s event. The event is also supported in part by a $5,000 grant from the SCI Foundation.

Thank you to the volunteers from Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park's grounds crew who are out in McDaniel Street Cemetery today clearing the overgrowth on our east boundary to the fence line! Special thanks to Brookside's Superintendent, Lorenzo Valdespino for meeting with WCA's board president to arrange this work in preparation for the April 25th Descendants Day event!

This Year's Descendants Day is a Community Picnic!

Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park, part of the Dignity Memorial® network, is supporting this year's Descendant's Day at McDaniel Street Cemetery as part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement and local history preservation. The event is also supported in part by a $5,000 grant from the SCI Foundation.

When: Saturday, April 25, 2026

Time: 10 a.m. - Noon

Where: 2951 McDaniel Street, Houston, TX 77093

Bring your own folding chairs, wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
