What a gift to tour Justice & Mercy Legal Aid Center during the CLS Conference alongside fellow justice practitioners. Seeing another ministry's model up close reminds me how much we gain by learning from one another. Grateful for their hospitality and the work they do every day for families in need.

We were honored to welcome the Board of the Christian Legal Society (CLS) to JAMLAC during their National Conference in Denver!

It was a wonderful opportunity to share our mission, give them a tour of our building, and highlight the work our dedicated team does every day to seek justice for individuals and families facing poverty and oppression.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with leaders who share our commitment to faith, justice, and serving those in need. ❤️

When families have the legal support they need, they have more room to move forward with stability. And that kind of support grows stronger when a community gets involved.

At Community Legal, we help families navigate child and family custody, divorce and family law, guardianship, and estate and family planning. There are meaningful ways for our neighbors and local organizations to help extend that support:

• Join us at our monthly community clinic at The Woodlands Methodist Church on the 4th Saturday of every month.

• Host a legal clinic at your church, nonprofit, school, or community organization.

• Invite us to speak at a community education event. We offer know-your-rights workshops and legal education presentations on estate planning, guardianship, and kinship custody.

Our executive director recently picked up Human Flourishing: A Field Guide to Being Well, Doing Good, Together from the Trilith Foundation while looking for language for what a season of rest could actually look like during her current sabbatical.

One idea stayed with her: community flourishing starts at the dinner table. When families flourish, communities flourish.

At its core, flourishing is about showing up for your neighbor.

That is what we strive to do at Community Legal. By helping bring stability to families facing civil legal challenges, we help create room for hope, peace of mind, and a stronger next step. And when families are stable, something bigger happens: neighbors can look out for one another.

In a season of rising loneliness and division, that kind of connection matters more than ever. It does not come from grand gestures. It grows through small, daily acts of respect and generosity.

Kinship caregivers prevent children from ending up in regular foster care. Texas leads all states in the number of kids placed in kinship care. Did you know though that most children in kinship care are there informally? Meaning these children were never placed in CPS custody. These families don’t receive the benefits, or legal services that are needed to make these homes stable for children. This is where Community Legal comes in - offering free assistance to kinship families who qualify.
