Giving Tuesday: A Personal Plea for a Kidney Donor to Save My Mom’s Life
This Giving Tuesday, I’m asking for something far more personal than donations—I’m asking for a chance to save my mother’s life.
My mom has spent her entire life doing everything what her doctors asked of her. Because of her discipline and sheer willpower, she managed to slow the deterioration of her kidneys far longer than anyone expected. But now, she’s out of time. She needs a living kidney donor.
My mom has a genetic kidney disease, which means neither her siblings nor her children can donate. She has already exhausted her circle of contacts, and as a testament to her character and her incredible people around her, nine people volunteer to try to help! But they were all ruled out for medical or other reasons. She is still so hopeful, still believing that someone—maybe a friend of a friend, or a stranger who sees this—might be willing to give her a second chance at life.
She treasures her grandchildren. She wants more time with her family. She wants to keep doing the simple things she loves—like swimming, which she’ll have to give up once she starts peritoneal dialysis in the coming weeks.
Today alone she has her regular blood transfusion, a nephrologist appointment, and a consultation with a vascular surgeon to prepare for the catheter she’ll need for dialysis. This is her life now—unless a donor steps forward.
🙏🏼 A kidney donation can save her life.
❤️ A single act of generosity can give her years she otherwise won’t have.
