VFW - Post 8790

10/07/2026

Today, the Department of Texas VFW honors the Veterans who served in Operation Enduring Freedom, remembers those who lost their lives, and recognizes the sacrifices of their families.

October 7 marks 25 years since the operation began in 2001. In response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, American and British forces launched strikes against al-Qaeda and Taliban targets in Afghanistan. The campaign that followed became a defining chapter in the service of a generation of Veterans.

We encourage Texans to observe this anniversary by learning about the conflict, remembering the fallen, and connecting with Veterans who served.

For Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans, the VFW provides opportunities to connect with fellow Veterans, support your communities, and advocate for Veterans’ benefits and care. Those interested in membership are invited to learn more through a local VFW Post. 📍 Find a Post near you:

Registration is OPEN for the 2027 Bataan Memorial Death March!

Lace up, find a training buddy, and make plans to join us March 20, 2027, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

Register for the march:
https://bataanmarch.com/register/

Texas VFW is participating to honor the American and Filipino service members who endured the Bataan Death March and captivity during World War II, remember those who died, and honor those who survived.

Along the way, we’ll share some miles, encouragement, and camaraderie. From training walks here in Texas to gathering in New Mexico, this is an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and work toward something meaningful together.

Texas has history in this humbling and moving experience. The photo shows Texas VFW participants in 2018, featured in VFW Magazine after completing the march. As the Department assembles again, we're bringing together a larger Texas VFW Bataan community, and we want you to be part of it.

Connect with fellow participants and stay informed. VFW members, Auxiliary members, family, friends, and supporters can sign up for our Bataan newsletter for updates on preparation, planning, and logistics:
