FFP Running Clubs

FFP Running Clubs FITNESS | FUN | PHILANTHROPY Dedicated to building "free" social running clubs around the world. www.ffprunningclubs.org

Through weekly social gatherings each club attracts a large base of fitness minded individuals who encourage each other to run on a consistent basis. Every weekly 5k fun run is completely free and concludes with members meeting for food and drinks at the sponsoring establishment. In addition to each club’s weekly runs, the clubs organize and host unique fundraising events throughout the year to raise money and awareness for well deserving charitable organizations within their community.

Meet Lisa Marie Shaugnessy 💛

When Lisa moved into Lakeside in 2024, she had no idea that Trailhead Running Supply was right below her apartment—or that it would become such a meaningful part of her life.

On her very first day, she noticed a sign for group runs and hikes. She met Jason from the shop and decided to show up for Rocky’s Road. That day, it was just the two of them. Instead of taking off, Jason stayed and hiked at her pace—making sure she felt welcome from the start.

Lisa came in as a hiker and former runner—but what she found was something more.

“The people keep me coming back.”
“They are my people.”

Since joining, she’s built real friendships, improved her mental well-being, and found consistency through things like Dirt Church—her Sunday morning lifeline.

FFP has always been about more than miles. It’s about community—showing up, supporting each other, and creating spaces where people feel like they belong.

“Community is key for living a vibrant, brain-healthy life… and Trailhead is now part of my DNA.”

If you’re thinking about joining a run club, take Lisa’s advice:
👉 Start with a walk (or hike)… and see where you want to go—and grow—from there.

This is how every run club starts.

A small gathering.
A morning coffee run. ☕
Or an evening run that ends with a beer. 🍻

That’s what Funcie Run Club in Muncie, IN is building right now.

They’re showing up week after week—and that’s what matters most.

If you’ve ever been part of a run club, you know…
this is the stage where something real begins.

Let’s show them some love!!! ❤️ 👇

Most people think running clubs grow because of marketing.

Better posts. Bigger events. More promotion.

But across FFP Running Clubs, we’ve seen something very different.

The strongest communities don’t grow because of marketing…
They grow because of connection.

A few patterns we see again and again:

• It’s not about running — it’s about belonging
• Consistency matters more than creativity
• The first 10–15 members shape the culture
• Communities grow fastest when members take ownership

No shortcuts. No hacks.

Just people showing up for each other—week after week.

In 2007, Houston was named the fattest city in America.

One year later, a Tuesday night run at an Irish pub changed everything.

This is the story of how FFP Running Clubs began—and why community still matters more than pace.

Mariko Yugeta — the 65-year-old who keeps breaking 3 hours🏃‍♀️🔥

On January 28, 2024, Japan’s Mariko Yugeta ran 2:59:13 at the Osaka International Women’s Marathon—at age 65. It was another sub-3 finish in a long list of them, part of a streak that has made her a global running icon.

Yugeta became the first woman over 60 to run a marathon under three hours back in 2019 (2:59:15 in Shimonoseki). Since then, she has done it more than a dozen times, often improving her own world record for the 60–64 age group.

Her training looks simple: early runs before work, mileage around 100 km per week, and no special gear or sponsorship. She started running seriously in her 50s and has kept setting lifetime bests while working as a high school PE teacher.

At every major Japanese marathon—Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya—spectators now look for her in the field: small stride, focused eyes, calm rhythm. At 65, Mariko Yugeta still runs under 3:00, and she’s not done yet.

The sixth installment of the East End 1K is coming up!! As always, LET’S NOT OVERDO IT! This year, a portion of the proceeds will support - a nonprofit urban farm in Houston’s East End, growing fresh, healthy food while creating programs that strengthen our community. From farm apprenticeships to neighborhood produce distribution, they’re building a more food-secure community—one small step at a time!

The event will be on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at 11AM and begin and end at Equal Parts Brewing, with prizes and drawings post race. Registration is limited and will close at 5pm on Tuesday, September 30th or once we hit capacity.

Check out Sigma Running Club profile for registration link.
