The Texas Holocaust, Genocide and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) convened at the Texas Capitol for its quarterly meeting on March 4th, bringing together leaders and educators to address Holocaust and antisemitism education, highlighted by powerful testimony from Bondi shooting survivor Rabbi Leibel Lazaroff about the antisemitic terror attack in December.

The session underscored the urgency of the commission’s work, with state leaders and experts emphasizing the need to confront rising global antisemitism through education, awareness, and continued advocacy.

The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission is gearing up in preparation for Holocaust Awareness Week starting January 23rd and running through January 30th.

Every year, the THGAAC arranges curriculum for public schools in Texas to teach about the Holocaust during the last week of January to coincide with International Holocaust Awareness Day which this year takes place on January 27th.

Friends of the THGAAC officially voted to approve the THGAAC State Commission specific grant-funding requests at its first board meeting on June 27th. These grants generously added $80,975 to the THGAAC’s $146,900 grant monies, for a total of $227,875.00 in grant funding.

As a reminder, near 100% of funds raised by Friends of the THGAAC go directly towards grant requests from the THGAAC State Commission.

Friends of the THGAAC held its inaugural meeting on June 23rd with Texas community leaders including Chair Steve Finkelman (Houston), Benjamin Lipson (Houston), and Lauren Hamer (Austin).

The Board reviewed the recommendations from the THGAAC, and agreed to supplement the state funds by awarding an additional $80,975.00 in funding for educational grants that support Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism education.

In addition, these leaders will work to explore new opportunities for fundraising throughout Texas in a variety of creative ways in order to maximize assistance for statewide agencies and organizations as they work to proactively combat antisemitism with special emphasis on underserved communities.
