There's a conversation almost every parent means to have with their kids… and keeps putting off. 💬

The money talk.

This week on our newsletter, I'm sharing why we avoid it, what $100,000 in student loans taught me about starting young, and the simple question you can ask at dinner tonight to begin — no lecture, no pressure, no perfect answers required.

Because it's never too early to start… and it's never too late. 🪙

Children naturally think about what they want.

They don't always think about the different ways they could get it.
A library card.
Borrowing from a friend.
Sharing with a sibling.
Renting something they'll only use once.

These conversations teach children that money isn't their only resource.

Sometimes thinking differently is even more valuable than spending differently.

What if one of the smartest money lessons isn't about saving more...

It's about buying less.
Not because buying is bad—but because sometimes buying isn't necessary.

Before making your next purchase, ask:
"Do we really need to own this?"

Sometimes you can borrow it.
Visit the library.
Share with a friend.
Or simply wait.

Helping children see these options teaches them that money isn't the only resource they have.

Sometimes the smartest purchase isn't a purchase at all.

💙 Tomorrow at 5:00 AM!

Have you ever noticed how children only see the thing they want?

The toy.
The game.
The special treat.

What they don't always see is what they're choosing to give up.

Tomorrow, we're sharing a brand-new MoneyCents Starts at Home article:

Every Purchase Is a Trade-Off

It's a simple conversation that can help children begin thinking beyond the price tag and make more thoughtful money decisions.

Because every dollar is a choice—and learning to make wise choices is one of the greatest financial lessons we can give our children.

📖 Join us tomorrow morning at 5:00 AM as the new article goes live.

What money lesson has been the most valuable in your family? We'd love to hear in the comments! 💙

As you head into the weekend, here's a simple family challenge.
The next time your child wants to buy something, don't answer right away.

Instead, ask:
✔️ Do I really want this?
✔️ Can I afford it?
✔️ Is it worth it?

Then listen.

You might discover they're learning to answer those questions for themselves—and that's where real financial confidence begins.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Children don't naturally know how to make smart money decisions.
They learn by watching us.

Every shopping trip is a chance to teach that money isn't just about buying things—it's about making choices.

When we slow down and ask thoughtful questions instead of rushing to the checkout, we're helping our children build habits they'll carry into adulthood.

Those little conversations matter more than we realize.
